Hi Guys
Stopped thismorning to fill with gas. Didn't close the door properly but locked the car with the fob as I went to pay. Came out and unlocked with fob (at least I thought in unlocked) opened the door and the alarm went off. Used the fob to try and deactivate the alarm and no joy. Key in ignition and car started ok. Drove off the forecourt with alarm going. Stopped up the road and tryed fob again. Nothing. Ran home got spare key and that wouldn't deactivate alarm???? Used the spare key in lock then the fob and alarm stopped. What's going on? Got to work and original key locked and unlocked car ok? I'm going to replace bat in spare key today. Is there anything special I need to do before/after I have done this?
Any help guidance would be great

P.s Since writing this I have put a new battery in my spare key, but the little LED is very dull and the car doesn't lock/open. Put the old bat back in an the LED is bright but takes a couple of press's to open/lock the car.

You may have just confused it by not shutting the door correctly - if the problem doesn't come back chalk it up to one of life's mysteries. If it does it again - disconnect the battery for 5 mins and re-connect to re-boot everything.

Very odd that you managed to drive off with the alarm going, I thought the alarm and immobiliser were intertwined?

I was thinking the same about the immobiliser. To be fair I've had the car for 8 months and never heard the alarm untill a few days ago. 1st was when I locked the car with the dog in, the second was the other night when it went off randomly I put it down to a spider who's decided the rangy is a good place to live. Could they be linked? The battery in the fob is a CR2016 the replacements were DL2016's. Both the replacements didn't work but when tested with a meter gave 3.2v. Does this sound like a problem?

the dl2016 is a replacement for the cr2016..what voltage does the 'cr' give, is it the same as the 'dl'......what dan says re disconnecting the RR battery , it does work wonders...it could be wise to test it as well as these cold days show up many faults on the RR if the batterys on the way out... ... - .- -.

I know they do oftern have mood swings! What's the best way to disconnect the battery without causing more problems? How do I test the battery? Check the voltage across the terminals with a meter?

rob, just undo the nut/cable that is enclosed in the little plastic box , ...you need to do a drop voltage test which will probably have to be done at a tyre shop or by an auto electrician.. ... - .- -.
