England 2006 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Tangiers Orange
LPG Service required on 4.4V8 2005 G4 in Kent

Newbie to this forum -can anyone tell me where in Kent or East Sussex I can find a reliable garage to service my LpG system. I think it is a Lovato twin system gifted by JE engineering . Worked faultlessly for 140000 miles but getting a little 'whiffy' now.

I have been advised by gentlemen at work never to fit LPG to your own vehicle or too buy a car with existing ones fitted. Reason being is that after 60,000 miles the engine will be shot will need a re-build and possibly replacement. This is due to the gas eating away at the pistons and oil seals. Of course the main reason for this is once you have it fitted you should use the petrol more than gas due to its lubricating ways.

the gentlemen are blowing smoke up yer arse as his mileage of 140k demonstrates

the bmw 4.4 takes to lpg without any issues

if its the jag 4.4 its wise to have a valve saver system installed

sorry but can't help the OP in the kent area , but if its whiffy get some soapy liquid on all fittings and joints as you obviously have a leak somewhere

I had it fitted with autolube 120,000 miles [7 years] ago and the car has worked on and off road all over the world from Thailand to Romania and Ukraine,-25 deg C to 45 deg C without a glitch, even as high as 6500 feet so I can't say that the theory is supported by my own experience. However it is fair to say that JE engineering are wizards of all things powerful and Land Rover that get abused in specialist civilian and military applications, so it could be their skill or "I am the exception that proves the rule."

Still need someone trusted to service it though? 2006 Thailand G4 Event Press Vehicle and still working hard

The old Rover V8 3.5, 3.9, 4.2, 4.6 Suffered massively if you put LPG on them. particularly the 4.6. They suffered the symptoms mentioned earlier. I know. Having had 2 engines that went completely. One just the day before as I was ready to PX !! Big Cry Tony

That only applies to certain engines. They aren't all the same. Mr. Green

That sounds like 'bloke down the pub' type expertise. In the case of 'fitting it yourself' yes, you could do all sorts or damage to you and everyone around...unless you are pre informed, and perhaps, getting it certified afterwards.
And yes, CERTAIN cars, can burn away the valve seats, and render the head near useless etc. If not lubricated.
But as us BMW engined cars can say.
You keep paying for petrol, we we will keep buying gas! At 50p a litre. ( and bloke down the pub always says, 'well they are gonna put it right up in price...you watch' ..-were watching it go down.)
Better to buy a Rangie with it already fitted, and ask for the certificate, tell your insurer, (no cost increase) and have bi annual LPG. service, at the least, (around £100)
And as Pete Haylands recommends, fit a lower temp thermostat, but that applies to the petrol drivers too.
My car has 100,000 LPG miles, total 165,000 on the clock. Clean oil, never misses a beat.
So, 'bloke down the pub' possibly is talking/gassing out his @rse, and has not all the facts, regarding specific models.

I agree, I have 4.2SC on LPG with valve lubrication, i bought it already converted, has done 40,000 miles on LPG full servicing and I had the valves inspected before I bought it and no issues. Lube costs a lot but you don't use much.

I have just had my own LPG source installed at home and am paying 27.7ppl now plus 10ppl to the tax man making my running costs peanuts.

I run the FFRR for less than the wife 2.0l golf.

Just seen this thread but I had Warren at A-Z fit lpg to my FFRR last year, great guy. For nothing but convenience and the fact I moved near to Maidstone I now use Medway Dual Fuel near Rochester to service the FFRR and another LPG car. The other LPG car had its service 2 weeks ago at Medway and Neil showed me that despite taking it to a few garages in North London, Not A-Z, in the past 3 years, they hadn't touched the car as the filters that were in there haven't been manufactured that way for over 3 years. Was bloody furious, £450 charged for them to open bonnet and do nothing else! Current:
