United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Zambezi Silver
might be returning to the fold

so the opposite of stephens thread, i am thinking of coming back to the fold.... i sold the old td6 and got a 3 year old Q7 comfort plus..... its a good piece of kit and it ploughs through motorways like nothing i have ever driven, but it turns out that the 6 seats aren't really needed and for the odd time i need a lot of space i have the back box so am thinking of getting back into a FF..... am in no rush but am wondering what to go for.... want to spend circa £20k.... not fussed whether diesel or petrol but really would like the following....

black interior
ski hatch (se?)
tow bar
minimum 6 speed box

any ideas? i could stretch to the facelift but i am thinking maybe not and just anti up to 4.4 in 2 years time....

am i mad?

Welcome back Andy... If your happy with a few miles then your just teetering on 4.4 TDV8 territory with that budget...

hey guys, bought the q7 in aug last year.....have checked in from time to time for a read

how many miles is many craig? 100k+?

i did think about the supercharged, but in the real world is there much difference between that and the tdv8 3.6 as am guessing that the supercharged is more cash due to rarity etc; i would have thought all would seem a step up from the td6 but then probably all louder than the q7 which has the 8 speed box.....?

SC cars are cheaper to buy but more to fuel, expect 16mpg from the 4.2 SC and 18mpg from the 5.0SC.

The 3.6 and 4.4 TDV8s are awesome engines. Discovery 4 HSE

SC is cheaper and a lot more powerful than the 3.6 v8 diesel. MPG is lower but not much in the real world, maybe 4 or 5 mpg more for the oil burner, but then a lot of reported issues with turbos and ego valves.

Yes Andy, i would think close to 100K pal...

The 4.4 TDV8 Would be my choice, followed by the SC (as less goes wrong with them then the 3.6)

BUT!!! And its a BIG BUT... Despite whats typed above, having owned the SC & the 3.6 and driving both on an almost daily basis! There really is no definable power difference between the 3.6TDV8 & 4.2 SC in real time ownership MPG was 16 - 26 in my experience. I now run a 4.4TDV8 and get around 30ish and imho the 8sp gearbox makes ALL the difference and was the defining reason i bought my car over the 5.0...

Hope that all helps Thumbs Up

I tested both and can vouch for the 8 speed 4.4 TDV8 and Craig's mpg #'s, in fact I had a conversation with him when he first bought his and what he now describes is exactly what I said to him at the time.... the 4.4 TDV8 is brilliant but it's the 8 speed box that really makes the package work so well.

On a run to Geneva at a steady 90mph (oh err missus) I can see 35mpg which given how unaerodynamic a 322 is astounds me.

Massive mid range grunt too.

You chipped yours yet Craig or not felt the need? 2016 (L405) Autobiography in Black with Ivory - for ULEZ
