Diesel Additives in L405 - Beneficial/Necessary/Detrimental?

Been reading up on diesel Additives and how they're apparently great for the engine and injectors

Some people have also said 2 stroke oil mixed in with the fuel is great

The likes of Liqui-Moly Super Diesel Additive with Cetan Plus also has good reviews

1. Does anyone know if these are necessary or beneficial (or even detrimental) in an L405 SDV8/TDV6?

2. Or should I just fill up with the likes of BP Ultimate etc and enjoy the drive

I have no idea so if anyone with more knowledge does, feel free to comment

And swapping for a rip snorting 5.0 Supercharged isn't an option (for now) Laughing Thumbs Up

I have a recollection that my 322 warranty handbook said that putting additives in the fuel would invalidate the warranty, so if you are still under warranty then you might want to check what yours says.

I try to use Shell V Power, which failing BP Ultimate and have been happy with them. My handbook says that when towing one should use the best quality fuel available, supporting my view that it makes a difference. My experience of 'ordinary' diesel is that I got poorer mpg, but much of the driving there was stop-start on single track roads in the Scottish highlands and islands, which might also have been a factor. Only Range Rovers since 1988

There are now so many additives and cleaners in all fuel that I think it's just a waste of money...

And all the fabulous claims come from the people who make it... Rolling Eyes

Manufacturers will always say run on the best available, but the 405 is sold world wide and will run happily on all grades of diesel, water content and dirty storage tanks are more of an issue than the quality of the fuel.... Pete

Thanks for the replies

I too am very sceptical about putting foreign objects in my fuel tank, especially 2 stroke oil in something as expensive and new as an L405

Might just stick to shell and BP premium

In my view all these are a waste of money as is the no ultimate and shell one, on a petrol the octane rating is higher makes a difference but all the engines are tuned to run on world wide fuels so in Africa your not going to find BP ultimate and your deisel will still run fine and fail now more often.

Latest L405's now have an AdBlue reservoir. (Which also reduces the size of the fuel tank and therefore is another reason we should come out of Europe)
