Did a trip Bristol to Hartlepool and return. All fine, even towed the milkman's Transit out a side road, after he took a wing mirror off a car parked behind me, in the snow yesterday.
Then on the way home the wiper rubber split off, luckily I had an old one spare to fit, snow, salt and spray need to be swept.
Pulled into services and thought engine sounds a bit Corsa drainpipe ish, yup the seam on the Cat had fractured. Had a look today system is sound so I'll get it welded up. Biggest pain will be dropping it to get at the weld area. And you know what I just read about wiper rubbers and Cat welds last week, I'll have to stop reading things unless I need to. Still ran without a hitch and we got out after 5 and a half hours in the saddle each way, without any leg or back pain, playing with the seat settings paid off!

If by chance it can be welded in situ? Make sure the welder disconnects the battery (following the correct procedure) a good 10-30mins before welding

Gets a bit expensive when all the ECU’s start to pop/fail Clive

No my son will weld it and he wants it off so can get easy access to it. Just got to worry about the manifold bolts coming off.

Took mine off last year, I was thinking it would be the usual rusty stud, strip or snap, swear etc etc...

The nuts looked like new and they all came off as if they had been put on yesterday... I was stunned... well done Land Rover... Pete

Exhaust all welded, lost that roar and can now not hear the engine at tick over again.

While my son was making all sorts of noises removing and replacing the exhaust he said I had a gear box leak.
I got under and saw yellow oil thinly covering the gearbox where there was almost a drip and the TC housing.

I think it is engine oil, it is very clean, only changed the oil 2000 miles ago.
I read somewhere that there can be a leak in a pipe at the back of the inlet manifold that drains down through the TC housing. I'll get the covers off at the weekend, got spark plugs to change anyway.

The often leaking 4.4 engine, has a quality, when the coolant leaks, from the engines' valley pan seal, and deposits into a small area at the top left of the inlet manifold. This has a small hole, that allows build up of coolant, to drain down the back of the engine, and it drips out the bottom of bell housing.
If you clean off some oil, and let it leak some more, and wipe with tissue, you will get an idea of its colour.
Also at the rear of the engine, is the PCV device, and hoses. These leak engine oil. This can get between the engine and bell housing joint. And will drip out of bottom etc. Finally, your gearbox could have a weeping front oil seal, and this will weep onto the rear of the engine, inside the bell housing, and drip out. Though this leak is rarer, than the other two.
Compare the taste, to the actual fluid, on dipstick. with a cotton bud etc. As sometimes, you can't tell fluids, unless there is about a teaspoonful to 'see'
It won't kill you.
But your neighbours will think you're mad.

Get some rocker cover gaskets to replace the old hard ones, and spray each plug first with penetrating oil, and soak, before attempting a gentle turnout, with a decent plug socket, and t-bar handle. These plugs do indeed bake themselves in.
The plugs often have oil in the wells too. Soak it up with tissue. But some will run in.
So expect some smoke on restart.
There's a thread all about stuck plugs, and changing etc.

Well aware of getting tight plugs out of Japanese motorbikes.

Don't forget the gearbox oil is NOT red it's about the colour of clean engine oil.... straw colour...  Pete

Yes aware of the fluid colour.
The droplet had a resistance when pinched between thumb and finger.
As I say I will investigate for upper engine leaks.
