Red Leather (Pimento) Interior

I'm hunting around for a new car for my wife. A L405, 2-4 years old, ideally a 5.0 Autobiography.

Now we both really like Red Leather as we think it's quite fun and might be more practical in the countryside.

However I was wondering if there were any stats on how many cars have been produced with Pimento, I'm assuming its a very small number.

Just to make life trickier she really wants a Blue car and I've yet to se an RR with Blue/Red, I've seen a few RR Sports.

Then we hate privacy glass but at least you can replace this even if it is £2k to do so!

We aren't in a desperate hurry and might settle for a 4.4 but realistically I wondered if we would ever find one, is there any system that might show me how many have been made in that spec to see if we are even vaguely likely to find one.

I had hoped to buy a L405 that was Black with Pimento interior but unfortunately was outbid. Black isn't our ideal colour, think we would rather have dark grey if we had to compromise however the Black car was well specced.

They seem to be a bit like buses - none for a while, then there are a few up for sale at once.

How much is a re-spray these days ?

There's a couple of red ones up for sale with Pimento - Pentland in Edinburgh have a 4.4 with clear windows.

Hunters in Derby have another - but it's got tints & a black roof - personally I think that's a really nice look, but sounds like it's not your cup of tea

Just don't do this Whistle

Yes saw that one quite hideous!

I quite like the Pentland one but my wife thinks red on red isn't a good combo.

I suppose we should just be patient and wait for the right one to come along.

I have been looking in to colours a lot just lately and just yesterday went to look at a car that had the pimento interior it was white. I must say I really liked it and it is now number one on my interior colours. I have seen it a lot in Europe in black cars but never seen it with loire blue. Then again my ideal spec at this minute is waitiomo with pimento and the dealer I have spoken to have never seen one specced like I want. I like to be different though. Smile

For the tinted windows, it is worth checking if they were dealer fit or factory. If dealer fit, it is just a film on the inside of the glass (not sure what they do at the factory) so probably just a case of having it removed again. Mine was dealer fit and looks just like factory. I wanted the tints as they are handy if you are carrying something in the boot and haven't got the parcel shelf in etc and don't want it easily visible. My L322 started me on them, but it had tints because it was fitted with the RSE so I think they were standard with that option. Steve

Good point - my last L322 had tinted glass - my current L405 has film

A good way of checking if the dark glass is tint film or actual dye in the glass is to look for a "V"

My rear windows have a V (privacy glass) whilst the fronts came clear and don't have a v . I've since tinted the fronts (necessary here unless you want a really tanned burned right arm)

The V applies here in Aus anyway. 2015 SDV8 Autobiography - Black, Cirrus, 22" Style 707 Wheels

All good points and I should make sure I double check that. Unfortunately for us it appears to me that about 70% of cars now have the privacy glass option.

Out of interest what roughly does a wrap cost and can you get them that actually look any good in say metallic or normal colours other than matt black or gold! Also are they that strong or do the deteriorate and look rubbish if the get stone chips etc..

If I had the toss-up between doing a wrap and re-doing the leather I would go with the interior.
As I mentioned on the other Pimento thread, there aren't many unusual interiors (of any type of car) about - we were quoted about £1200 to two-tone a 4 seat convertible, so I would guess at a couple of grand for a FF.
A pal was doing lower arms on his mate's wrapped 322 recently, it had a couple of nicks in it near the leading/trailing edge of the doors. Looked absolutely **** to me. Put me off wrapping full stop. 2007 Vogue TDV8 with 255/55/20's fitted

I think roughly £2000 - £3000

Have a watch of these https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUHsXS2q7A7cTc8R6r31FRg
If its done correctly you can't tell.

IMHO you should choose the car with factory interior and colour change the exterior. To re trim an L405 to the quality that the JLR factory does will cost £££££'s. Call Overfinch or Khan.

Thumbs Up
