They re not similar in performance at all the SC has tons more power a tiny bit less low down torque but so much the better engine.

286 bhp for the desiel and 400 for the SC thats really close. |

depends on the vehicle as most are remapped and can match and still return 20 mpg plus,mines closer to 360bhp now and nothing like a standard _____________________________________________________

Just posted on another thread about this but can add , I had an 480 bhp Imprezza and it had stunning acceleration BUT until I had anti lag fitted , you had to treat the clutch with tremendous abuse to get it off the corners , the anti lag cured this but caused so many other issues it was a very expensive cure , like wise my R1 can be short shifted in the next wall of torque while keeping the rear tyre from spinning and still drive forward

20 you get 20mpg from you diesel and i very much doubt with a remap your anywhere near 360bhp, but lets say you are. I get 20mpg on my SC with 400 ponies and no messing around, the fact i also run LPG mean i get closers to 30 mpg in fuel cost terms, have more torque, more power and a better overall drivability. Theres nothing wrong with the diesel i drove all the model before buying, but lets not try and pretend they are the same as the v8 petrol's especially to the SC model because they just aren't, they are excellent motors and great if you want to cruise motorways all day and get a little more MPG, but they are not the same as the premium engine, the top of the line engine the SC. Its you choice what you buy, but after driving them all there really is only one that is amazing to drive thats the SC. |

On the power side the 4,2 sc is way ahead of the 3.6 but on torque the 3.6 is a bit ahead and I think that's what matters to some. Obviously the power equates to 2.5 quicker to 60 and that's fun. For me , and that's all I can say , real world driving the 3.6 is the way to go , with a remap your talking a huge increase ( + 30 % ) on the torque figure which would be very close to a 4.2 sc in a lot of situations and even the 5.0 sc can't match the standard 3.6 torque all be it by a small margin

Had 3.6TDV8 for 4 years now, only had minor problems and I expect I would have had similar issues if I had bought a petrol.

Hi Lighthouse where are you getting your figures from ? A remap on a 3.6 is 250 stg Again this is just my humble opinion and I'm not try to convince anyone just give some published facts re the torque figures , un mapped and mapped Obviously if I've read the figures wrong then fair enough but I e just checked again on Wikipedia and it also states the 3.6 has more torque than the sc. 4.2 and 5.0 , either way you like the sc and so do lots of people This post was about someone asking which one people thought was preferred

Now we are getting into the region where the average "newest" 3.6 will have north of 60k on it then the supercharged makes sense reliability wise, and it makes a nice noise. And I'm a diesel nerd

I feel that's it's getting a little off topic here and I didn't realise that I really wanted a SC but won't admit it. LOL could you give me the lotto numbers please or is it only Diesel Range Rover owners minds you can read.

Ummmm NO sir... the Autobiography in simply terms is NOT the best spec sir, You are referring to the era of the 3.6 & 4.2SC so 05-09my and the Autobiography of that era was simply an upgrade to any spec of 322 to make it “yours” So, in simple terms an Autobiography of that era could have been a Vogue or a Vogue SE so, an Autobiography based on a Vogue may well have less spec than a standard Vogue SE... Just making things crystal clear for the OP |
