A farmers engine in a pretty body.. Eh?
Same engine that flies down autobahns in 5, 7, and I think 8 series BMWs.
Not many tractors with variable camshaft advance.

You said the amber transmission light. I think you meant the Amber engine light.
Also known as the engine MIL malfunction indicator lamp.

Strange symptoms that you describe... No overheat, no chronic clatter.
Is the engine still 'drivable' ? Did it smoke a lot?

-40 a day? Rolling Eyes

Sorry, now is not the time for humour, but I've had a wee drink.

Just got back in from looking at cheap cars/vans

Johnboyairey, bad quote as i thought the original RR was a farmers vehicle that he could take his wife out in a level of luxury - so meant is was a farmers lump in a vogue body with the vanos thingy …….. anyway, quickly moving on Cool
Yes the same light - if thats its name - mine was an atheist so ill have it re baptised asap.
Seriously tho, the engine gave out no smoke at all.
Ive had a cam chain broke once before (small car not this unit) - engine lights, warning sounder, engine revs died, smell of oil and big plumes of blue/white ish smoke out the back. I have a season ticket for the M1 hard shoulder !!!

The engine did still run, thats why i assumed a tensioner type of issue.
On tickover noisey, rev a little and it was less noisy - still a bag of marbles in a biscuit tin tho. Only on the drivers side of the block. Covered in oil residue.

Re the other disco 3 link - that was the same company i was looking at and had a quote and a tel call off on friday.
My mechanic stated that the quote of 2250 was indeed cheap - too cheap to be a quality recon.
That link just verifies my thoughts.
The other quotes i had were from Barking area - 7K circa with them having the car and returned working after 2 weeks.
Im at their beck n call for them to claim for additional costs that they might supposedly find.
Too right its a lack of trust but with respect to the east end area its renowned for such business practises.

To make this worse I've received a text from the old depot mechanic that tinkers with bike engines - BSA,Norton etc and he wants first refusal on the car as a whole if I'm selling but he won't say what his plans are.
He will just spend time and knowledge to sort the damn thing in his little garage, and machine the parts if he needs to over 6 months or so ……..
Nice bloke but he can have it for 8 grand and then he can have a choice of any engine he wants hahaha

I will send you a PM if I'm able to if thats ok ?

I think a PCV system failure can pressurise the oil system and blow oil out and into lots of places it shouldn't be and can wreck an engine if not stopped quickly enough
