New Zealand 2010 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Galway Green

In the part of Malaysia where we live the lines aren't too clear anymore so at night, especially when it rains, they are very difficult to see. Combined with the "flexible" driving style here that is not always great (well if I drive "flexibily" nobody complains either so that is a plus Razz ). Anyway, I say PAINT THOSE DAMN LINES AND PAINT THEM WELL. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Anyway, correct me if I'm wrong, but from the gist of last entry, I would say that you feel there is a misconceived feeling that the faster you drive the worse driver you are...... Well just a thought, aren't some of the fastest drivers Policemen? Shocked Thumbs Up You can throw that in the face of the next pro slow politician that you see Mr. Green

Your totally right about the standards of driving, it's crap. The more safety features that they put on a car the worse that car owner drives..... When I took my driving test, in the days before they had invented Mobile phones or the internet, you had to do an emergency stop, without skidding out of control....... any half wit can do that now with ABS Evil or Very Mad There is no skill in driving anymore, so there is a total lack of respect for the damage that can be done with a car.

I rode a motorbike for a year before upgrading to 4 wheels, this was the best lesson in road seance that anyone could get, not only did you have to be aware of all the other cars around you. You also had to learn to spot hazards like wet manholes and oil on the road. I have long said that every driver should have to do a year on a bike before you can drive a car. And strongly feel that all learner cars should not have ABS, traction control or any other electronic driver aid.

A pal of mine took his HGV test just before Christmas, he said that the theory was harder than the test as the truck had ABS and an automatic gearbox, all he had to do was steer Shocked Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Just a note on speed limits.

LGV (HGV)'s since 6 April 2015 in England & Wales have had their speed limits increased to 50mph on single carriageways and 60mph on dual carriageways and motorways (although many are limited between 50 & 56mph).
Also an increasing no. of rural national speed limit roads are having the limits reduced to 50mph for all other vehicles in an attempt to reduce the no. of accidents due to poor decisions when deciding to overtake. The theory being that if all vehicles are travelling at the same speed/limit there should be no need to overtake. Of course, no matter what the speed limits are, there will always be those who think they know better or limits only apply to other drivers.

As for white lines, lots of studies have been done, and from my own personal experience, the lack of white lines at junctions do make you generally focus more but unless this is adopted on EVERY road and junction, too many drivers will assume no lines means right of way or see that the other road has no white lines late, panic, brake and have the driver behind rear end them. And yes, happy days for the insurance companies. Censored

Kind of, and kind of not. I would phrase it more the opposite; there's a misconception that the slower you drive, the better driver you are, which is even worse I suppose. Good point re policemen!

It's all very frustrating when I sit behind someone that's dawdling and can see the mistakes they make, can see them braking at the wrong times and can see their lack of confidence because I have been a biker, I've done an advanced driving course and I have a background involved in rallying, yet I know that they probably think they're an excellent driver, and so do many others. Our roads are being stretched to their capacity, yet so often a simple increase in people's will to get a move on (not speed, just stop dithering and dawdling) would reduce traffic build up hugely, but IMO the vibes are the opposite.

Well I wish that bloody Tesco's and Waitrose would take notice of that, cos they still drive up the 421 from J13 to MK at 40 Evil or Very Mad

Interesting though, that they have finally seen the need to have everybody doing the same speed on a single carriageway.... it does sort of remove the need to overtake and plough head long into the on coming traffic.... wonder why nobody thought of that one before Rolling Eyes Progress??? looks like it's all going back to pre- Brussels days Whistle How long before the red flags come out? ^^^^ Hell yes! Defeats the whole point of a roundabout. I would like to see all mini roundabouts restricted to only three exits as they rightly should be too. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Where i live in Chadderton, there is a roundabout (if you can call it that. It's more like a rectangle with a curve at each end!) Called the gardeners Arms (the pub at the side!) It has 6 junctions feeding into / out of it with the associated pedestrian lights attached, and filters attached to the lights themselves so you can't see the light turn to green ! Every day is a total nightmare trying to negotiate it, and the traffic congestion caused backs all roads up and can take up to 20 minutes to negotiate.
The lights failed recently and were out for 3 days. Result..... No congestion, free flowing traffic, no accidents, decrease in journey time, less traffic pollution and noise.
Traffic lights on roundabouts? Especially motorways, where you need to accelerate to match the speed of the motorway traffic before joining?? Doesn't work IMHO Whistle Tony

Funny you should say that........ I live in the land of a hundred and sixty something roundabouts, Milton Keynes, when it gets to office kick out time, the only roads that have any real traffic jams are the roundabouts with Censored traffic lights Evil or Very Mad The rest of Milton Keynes flows very well, and there is never really more that 4 or 5 cars queuing at any junction. Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... We've seen exactly the same in Warminster town centre when the traffic lights have failed on a few occasions - much better traffic flow in all directions. Things have got worse still because they've installed a new pedestrian crossing just a few yards from the other lights and it now conflicts with the main traffic lights causing chaos. The Amesbury roundabout on the A303 is another classic case. Mad

Oh yes, that's another thing; zebra crossings placed immediately on access from an alley or similar, so people have to step straight on it even if they aren't crossing (Waitrose Monmouth...) Not nice for drivers or pedestrians. Rolling Eyes Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

The best place to see non-traffic light controlled roundabouts working in perfection is the Magic Roundabout in Swindon !! No lights, no fuss !! Tony
