Fuel Pump Issues - Car won't start

Hi everyone

I'm having a bit of issues with my fuel delivery system for my car. I was hoping you may be able to diagnose it for me or put me in the right direction to fix it. 2003 Range Rover HSE TDV6

Background: Car took about 4 seconds to start previously. Once it had started there was no issues is the revs etc, everything was running smoothly.

One day, the car would keep turnover but would not catch and start. Next day when I went to get it (as I left the car over night) the car, after about 6 seconds, turned over. I had the low pressure pump replaced, now the car about 80% of the time turns over after about 4 seconds. Some other times it does not.

The mechanic said the fuel tank/fuel gauge has issues as it is not pumping the fuel to equalize the tank. However, while this is an issue would it affect the fuel pressure replacing the small inline fuel tank pump that pumps fuel to equal the hemispheres on the tank? He also noted on an incline the car would not start.

Any suggestions/tests I may be able to do to solve this? I tried the search and after trawling through tens of posts I figured you may be able to help me direct. Thanks in advance!

The symptoms could also be related to some failing glow plugs. Have you had the codes read? ----------

@ le25dse in Norway quite possibly but in Oz less likely Very Happy

I was going to suggest failed injectors, if a couple of these stop working it can lead to longer turnover at start, and if things really bad not starting at all. A leak test might help to prove this.

Also it is a TD6 (straight 6) not a TDV6 Wink .

I'd put money on a leaking injector that bleeds off some pressure when parked or a high pressure pump giving early warning signs. You need a diagnostic to show injector correction/flow levels and fuel pressures within the system to compare to standard. I may still have readings in my gallery or in my blog/posts from what mine was like when it started to get bad and it did just get worse. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
