I agree that the GAP iiD tool is awesome.
I have the Bluetooth version.
Patrick is awesome to deal with and I have also paid them to help update all my ECUs to the latest versions.
Obviously you have to make sure your battery is 100% and also be confident and patient.
There's been one or two times where I've been doing an update to the ecu and it seems to be taking forever and I start to think it's frozen but you just have to wait.
I've also used it when I paid BAS for a remap to my TDV8 3.6.
They made the file available through the GAP updated and then I flashed it.

This is probably the best item/tool I've purchased for the car so far.

I also have no affiliation to them.
