Out in the motor today when I suddenly notice this quite loud whoosing noise from the engine. It happened only when the engine was under load.
It sounded horrendous and expensive.
The heart sank bit as I immediately thought 'turbo'.
There was no noticeable loss of power or smoke bellowing.
It's a hard noise to describe, a bit like water under pressure escaping.
The R/H intercooler hose (looking at the car in front of the bonnet) had a small nick in it at the elbow.
This filled me with great joy but on checking the L/H one there was a huge (2.5") split not visible unless you take the pipe off. I was over the moon at this point.
A quick trip down to LR (Sturgess Leicester) and got both pipes for £73 and it sorted it.
So for anyone else with a similar whooshing water/air sound, check the top intercooler hoses.
Just as a side note, on the invoice from Sturgess was a little footnote stating that parts beginning with the letter 'L' (as these hoses did) came with a two year warranty as they were genuine LR parts.
Maybe all you guys know this and i'm stating the obvious but at least it means that these hoses are good for two years.
