I need 2 new back tyres and the two fronts are reasonably new conti cross contacts, I was thinking of putting Pirelli scorpions on the back instead of conti, any thoughts?

not ideal but acceptable as long as the same axle has the same make/depths... ... - .- -.

I would never do it again - having learnt the hard way- admittedly in a high performance car I was driving fairly quickly

Basically - well within the limits of grip, you're fine - but ultimately one set will give up before the other set - and you can't really predict which set that will be in all conditions - and then the car behaves unpredictably.

In my case, the rears gave up & the car just snapped into a spin - and I didn't think I was anywhere near the limit......

With a FFRR you're probably OK - and many people have cars with 4 different brands - but I would never do it again.

+1 similar experience in an XJS few years ago ( well a lot of years ago if truth be told) lesson well learnt I now change tyres at 3mm and only replace 4 at a time

Change all four and offer the two Conti’s for sale? Is that an option?

Nexens on the front a couple of years ago with contis on the rear. About to put Nexens on the rear because have had no bother at all in about 9000 miles with the ones on the front. Previous cars:
S-Max 2007-2013 (only diesel I've had, good car but expensive when diesely bits go wrong, so what's the point?)
