Morning all.

Still battling the battery drain problem since the new battery went in back in Dec 2015 but defo not as bad as before.

Question........
I only noticed this yesterday but it's been happening for weeks but paid no attention as I thought it was just the "norm"

When the FF is either parked for the night or in the work car park I always turn off the heater/blower and turn off the engine.

On returning morning/afternoon/evening when I put the key in the ignition and turn the key to the first stage, lights on the dash come on as normal but the blower starts? Sometome on 1 orange sometimes on 2 orange lights?

Surely if I turn it off the last time I drove then it should remain off until I start ot.

Is this a sign the FSR is goin or gone?
More importantly is this the reason for my long standing battery drain problem I have shared with many of you guys in my other post?

Any comments would be great

got no idea what FSR is but my battery drain over night after much investigation by LR was down to the fact the park heating/cooling remote receiver was staying live and not going to sleep. - they swapped out the module (in the boot) and hey presto.

I don't know if this helps but if I turn my heater/blower switch off and then lock the car the blower doesn't restart itself when I unlock the car or even turn on the ignition. I have to physically turn the knob or press the button to start the fan inclusding orange indicator lights.

the problem i have is the heating/blower comes on sometimes when i get into the car to start up even if i turned it off on my last drive.

e.g this morning the Wife drove it to the horses the heater wasn't on. When she got back in to drive home the heat/blower was on!

What i'm saying is this caused by the FSR failing or failed already?

I did search Stan but couldn't find anything like my problem.

When i say FSR, i mean Final Stage (Blower) Resistor - Fleagle_UK

Could the odd blower/heater behavior be a result of the FSR?

**update**

So this morning went to start the car, put the key into the ignition and turned it once into "pre-warm up" all the lights on the dash come on as normal and the blower starts, it's on 1 orange light! It was 100% off last night.

Why is it coming on when it was turned off with everything else when I parked up last night.

The FSR needed to be replaced on my 2004 car, but the symptoms were not as you describe (it was just a case of no heat into cabin, sometimes one could 'trick' the car by changing the area to be heated and then going back to the original choice once the hot air had come on).

I take it when you switch off you are pressing the A/C off switch rather than just turning the dial around the auto switch to no lights on? Otherwise if you are on auto and are not at the temperature you have set, and A/C is on, the blower will just come on at the strength it needs to reach the temperature when the engine is started, so one or more lights come on around the auto switch and then as the temperature approaches lights will go off again as the blower speed falls. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Amongst other things I have the same problem as you, I always turn the knob to zero before I turn the engine off. I don't use auto & my blower always re starts when I start the engine. I actually replaced my FSR last week with a Britpart copy, it lasted 10 minutes into my first journey after fitting & then the blower went onto full & wouldn't adjust. So I'm back with the old unit at the moment & have re ordered a genuine part to try again. Mine does other weird stuff too, slowing down & speeding up & coming on five minutes after I've parked! Its all good fun

I'm going to order a new FSR from Dan at ducksworth and also purchase a amp metre checker to check the battery volts before spending 300 plus on a new start motor due to having the non starters I've been having.

Hi,
Few possibilities:
1) it is possible that "key memory" is disabled. This is the feature that stores "car settings" for each key. If it's disabled, car will not remember you have turned AC or radio or anything else, off. Please ensure that you always use the same key when testing.
2) FSR would not cause the IHKA(aircon) module to set any control values. FSR is simply bunch of "stupid" resistors that will "leak" when it breaks.

FSR will break due to:
A) Old age, ie. enough cycles or
B) Overload. Your fan starts failing -> required current goes up -> FSR overheats and solders inside module are actually melted. When the epoxy that's used to keep everything protected inside FSR melts enough, the solders electrical contact brakes and you have intermittent or simply failing FSR.

This is the reason why FSRs fail so quickly after replacement. People do not fix the actual cause, which is seizing fan. These are simple friction bearing units without any kind of lubrication.

New light on old topic. Latest baby playing up! 2012 4.4 Westminster
Ventilation fan no longer working after full service. (maybe coincidence).
Actions:
Fan switch lights increase but blower motor does not start.
Replace the usual culprit, the FSR 'hedgehog' but no change.
Short out cooling spines to earth - fan blows full speed. OK
Measure variable voltage from switch with multi-meter (control voltage). Increases for zero to around 8 volts. OK
Connect up FSR in college electronics lab using a 4 ohm resistor for a load - Output voltage and current increase with increasing control voltage. OK FSR works as it should.
Tearing what remains of hair out ! ! !

Advised to try a 'Hard Reset' by disconnecting the battery, wait 10 mins, short positive and negative leads together for 10 seconds, wait 10 minutes, reconnect battery, wait 10 minutes.

Start up engine, switch on fan - all working perfectly.
Why ? ? ? ? ? ? Too many electronics ! ! ! ! ! !

I was just wondering if your blower fan had any more troubles after the reset ?

I have similar problems. I’ve replaced the FSR, but find intermittently the Blower will work for a short while before not working at all. Now it’s getting cold, I need to find the solution.

Any other advice gratefully appreciated. -------------------------------------
