TDV8 Thermostat replacement

Hi folks. My temp gauge is up and down like nobody's business eventually settling where it needs to. I suspect a requirement for a new thermostat. Is there a noddy guide anywhere?
Thanks in advance

Just a word of caution, does the temp gauge ever go ver halfway ?

It is just a friend had an erratic temp gauge on his TDV8, although it never went over half way. The problem in his case was actually the oil temprature sensor.

As soon as he described the fault to the local main dealer they knew that it would most likely be the oil temprature sensor.

Hi Jamie, no temp gauge after fannying around for 15 mins goes straight to vertical and stays there.....oil sensor temp now that's a weird one, I'll look into that.

Yes as with most modern cars the coolant temp sensor isn't directly connected to the gauge, but to the ECU and that decides what temprature the gauge displays.

Based on the info for the main dealer my friend took his TDV8 to that LR also take a temprature reading from the oil and use that in conjunction with coolant temp to decide what temp to display on the dash.

My friend had been round the loop of having the coolant temp sensor and thermostat replace before trying a different LR dealer who said to replace the oil temp sensor as soon as he described the symptons of the erratic temprature gauge on the dash.
