United Kingdom 2016 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Santorini Black
Which is faster?

Having had a look on youspace I can't seem to find one.....

Has anyone drag raced a 4.4 tdv8 against a 4.2 sc?

I was just curious as I saw a 0-100-0 race 5.0 sc rrs v 4.2 sc rrs and the 5.0 absolutely kippered the older car! Bit different I admit but it got me wondering.

I realise that the 5,0 would obliterate the diesel, but what about the 4.2...... In a straight race? There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

United Kingdom

official 0-60 figures are,

5.0 sc is 5.9 secs

4.4 tdv8 is 7.5 secs

4.2 sc is 7.1 secs

not much in it between the 4.4 diesel and 4.2 sc.. ... - .- -.

The figures tell part of the story tho Stan, obviously the 5.0 is coming to be miles in the lead, But with its extra lbft I wonder if the diesel could claw it back over 1/4 mile against the 4.2

Interesting Whistle There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Had a bit of a search

Reckon on

15.7 sec 1/4 mile 4.4 tdv8
15.4 sec 1/4 mile 4.2 sc

So it would be close! Probably down to the set of response of the diesel. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Almost though Wink

Sq5 tdi 14.7 1/4 mile. So it would win by about 35m over the 4.4 and 15m over the 4.2.... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I am sure the 5.0SC is underrated by land rover. Edmonds.com tested it at 5.2s to 0-60mph with roll out and C&D tested it at 5.1s to 60mph.

Just out of interest, the 4.4 is at least as fast as a late model old shape ssrr.

Some chappie tried to under cut me on a roundabout, onto a length of dual carriageway. I won. Whistle

All at legal speeds naturally Rolling Eyes There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Having had a 4.2 S/C before we bought the 4.4TDV8, there is no real difference in everyday use - apart from the frequency of stopping for fuel. !

Are we not missing the fact that flooring a 4.4TDV8 will result in oil through the turbo smoke obscuring who reaches the finish line first anyway? 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

No, mine is clean as a whistle Whistle

The problem as I understand is that oil pressure in the turbo feed pipe remains after the engine has been switched off which then bleeds past the turbo seals, so switching it on and off and only driving it short distances push extra oil into the secondary turbo, which doesn't spool up until the car is floored, if used all the time the oil isn't given a chance to build up and so the problem doesn't present itself.

The symptom should not present if you

A. Drive the nuts off it
B. Don't turn it on and off and only go 20'yds each time
C. Drive the nuts off it
D. Don't look in the mirror

That's how I understand it, could be completely wrong tho. In any case it's faster than the ssrr.... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
