I considered the different options and this thread was a BIG help.
I chose the Grom as it does what I want and it is a relatively small change.

The other option is of course a complete replacement of the head unit by a modern Android unit (see http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic27033.html). That will bring the L322 ICE really up to date. I might still do that in a year or so.

Are but if you do the BM54 upgrade, you will only have an audio in and will only be able to control the volume from the steering wheel, the Grom will allow you to change tracks and receive phone calls as well........ AND I'm not totally sure on this but I recon that there is a very good chance that your audio in will end up in the boot with the BM54 unit, so you'll have to pipe it to the front  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

It is a bit confusing, you need the BMW business radio adapter, which I believe Grom refer to as the BMWT option, but it all goes in the glove box of the ffrr not the boot. For some reason BMW decided to mount their CD changer under the Nav head unit in the boot and have a reasonable size glove box, Land Rover decided that you'd only want to put a credit card in the glove box, so they filled it up with the changer.

So to sum up you need a Grom with the BMWT kit, but you only need a short ipod lead

The BMW-T cable is required, it is a short lead that connects the Grom unit in to the BMW / L/R loom, but here in the UK they do not charge any more for this lead and it is included in the cost of the unit

The only reason that you'd need the USB / Audio cable is if you are going to be using a non apple player, the lead that you can get for the BT3 intergrates with all apple products that have the 30 pin connector (old style) and you can get an adapter from 30 pin to apple Lightening connector (new type), so the whole range can be covered  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... I'm still undecided about which way to jump at the moment, the Grom units appear to be good value for the features that they offer, but if I'm going to pull the dash apart I feel more inclined to fit a complete new modern android unit, although I believe if I do I will loose some of the other functions performed through the head unit. I need to look further into this, I'll check out the thread Defenderr posted yesterday.

At the end of the day all I really want is an aux input for the radio from my phone, bluetooth would be a bonus as would modern sat nav but neither are essential to me. If only that CD player would come out without ripping the dash apart!

Thanks miggit. The only problem I can see with the Grom is that I don't gain a reversing camera. It has the advantage of being plug'n'play by the look of it.

One CD free glove box. The CD wont be going back in but that doesn't matter. It took me about half an hour in all. So decision made I've ordered a BT Grom with iPhone & Aux jack.

Anyone want to buy it!

No crowbar, two flat bladed screwdrivers, a big pair of side cut tin snips and a long flat piece of steel to cut through the rubber suspension units.

Well, I've had amazing service from everyone involved (including the info gleaned from this thread) I ordered my Grom on Thursday afternoon from Grom UK. They emailed by the end of the day with a Royal Mail tracking No & it arrived at my place in Rural France at 11am this morning. Fantastic service from Grom, Royal Mail & the French equivalent.

I now have auxiliary audio in my RR with almost no effort and at very reasonable costs.

Hello All, i have just had a read thro this interesting upgrade and would be buying it now except have noticed this is for the 2004 models only ?
I have a 2005 vogue model, i don't use the CD player either and for £125 the Gromm unit with 5m lead would solve a lot of my requirements.
If this will adapt my 2005 then i will buy. Could a tech person say yes or no if this will work ?
If i ask Gromm will that just say yes to sell a unit ?

If your car has the touch screen Nav unit then the Grom will not work

It will only work with the BMW Nav / TV screen, which looks like this
