I considered the different options and this thread was a BIG help.

Are but if you do the BM54 upgrade, you will only have an audio in and will only be able to control the volume from the steering wheel, the Grom will allow you to change tracks and receive phone calls as well........ AND I'm not totally sure on this but I recon that there is a very good chance that your audio in will end up in the boot with the BM54 unit, so you'll have to pipe it to the front Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Let me see if I have this straight so I can place an order (I see there is an agent in Oz), I need: BMW, Mini, Rover Interface Box (BT3-BMW) Trunk / Boot Data Cable (BMW-T) *** Pod / iPhone / iPad 30 Pin Cable (5Ft) (IPD2) But I don't need this: Extension Port to Auxiliary Cable (3.5mm) with USB Charging Port (35USB) *** I see there is a Data Cable (BMW). From your comments, perhaps one can buy the shorter data cable rather than BMW-T? Cheers, Ron Ron B. The BMW-T cable is required, it is a short lead that connects the Grom unit in to the BMW / L/R loom, but here in the UK they do not charge any more for this lead and it is included in the cost of the unit

I'm still undecided about which way to jump at the moment, the Grom units appear to be good value for the features that they offer, but if I'm going to pull the dash apart I feel more inclined to fit a complete new modern android unit, although I believe if I do I will loose some of the other functions performed through the head unit. I need to look further into this, I'll check out the thread Defenderr posted yesterday.

Thanks miggit. The only problem I can see with the Grom is that I don't gain a reversing camera. It has the advantage of being plug'n'play by the look of it.

One CD free glove box. The CD wont be going back in but that doesn't matter. It took me about half an hour in all. So decision made I've ordered a BT Grom with iPhone & Aux jack.

Looks like you use the quick release crowbar method to remove that

No crowbar, two flat bladed screwdrivers, a big pair of side cut tin snips and a long flat piece of steel to cut through the rubber suspension units. |

Well, I've had amazing service from everyone involved (including the info gleaned from this thread) I ordered my Grom on Thursday afternoon from Grom UK. They emailed by the end of the day with a Royal Mail tracking No & it arrived at my place in Rural France at 11am this morning. Fantastic service from Grom, Royal Mail & the French equivalent.

If your car has the touch screen Nav unit then the Grom will not work
