sounds like it, if it is blocked then the crankcase pressure will rise, forcing oil up the dipstick tube. Replacement with a BMW vortex type is recommended by pretty much everyone Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

well ive stripped it down and the crankcase filter was in a right mess it was all gooey so with not having another till tomorrow i put it back together without one just to try it. well the oil doesnt come out of the dipstick anymore but when i drove it a short distance it still through a hell of a lot of smoke out the back under boost. so am i correct in thinking it is the turbo which is knackered or could oil be coming from somewhere else and burning. another thing. on the td6 should i have an engine management come on with the ignition on then go out when it starts as i havnt. thanks for all this help buy the way

Hi

The oil will have got everwhere - I would see how it settles down (burns off) and see how it goes. Just think of all that oil sitting in the exhaust system that needs to clear.

Cheers

Simon

Fit one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301091751067?_tr...rmvSB=true and take it for a long drive, there will be residual oil deposits in the whole exhaust system that you'll have to burn off before you know anything.

I know that it's a Range Rover, and that you, like the rest of us, expect it to self-destruct in a nano second Shocked , but you might just find that this can be fixed for less that £12....... which should result in this Very Happy , not Shocked Big Cry

JUST A QUICK UPDATE

today i changed all the filters and cleaned out all the excess oil i could find. i took it for a drive and after about 5 mile all the nasty smoke had stopped and the motor feels a lot better and more responsive so i believe the problem has been resolved. thank god it wasnt the turbo and i thank all of you so much for your amazing advice with my problem. this site and your advice is fantastic Thumbs Up

Evil or Very Mad I'm the one with turbo trouble Big Cry

At low rev on/off throttle conditions (traffic jams) it give a low pitch squeak / rumble and it's started to use oil and the power is down Sad

I'm making inquiries with some turbo suppliers as we speak and preparing myself for major Shocked Big Cry Still I can't grumble too much, (unlike the bloody turbo) as the car has had a hard life these last few years...... if there's a stress related fault, I'll find it Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer...
