sounds like it, if it is blocked then the crankcase pressure will rise, forcing oil up the dipstick tube. Replacement with a BMW vortex type is recommended by pretty much everyone There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

well ive stripped it down and the crankcase filter was in a right mess it was all gooey so with not having another till tomorrow i put it back together without one just to try it. well the oil doesnt come out of the dipstick anymore but when i drove it a short distance it still through a hell of a lot of smoke out the back under boost. so am i correct in thinking it is the turbo which is knackered or could oil be coming from somewhere else and burning. another thing. on the td6 should i have an engine management come on with the ignition on then go out when it starts as i havnt. thanks for all this help buy the way

Fit one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301091751067?_tr...rmvSB=true and take it for a long drive, there will be residual oil deposits in the whole exhaust system that you'll have to burn off before you know anything.

today i changed all the filters and cleaned out all the excess oil i could find. i took it for a drive and after about 5 mile all the nasty smoke had stopped and the motor feels a lot better and more responsive so i believe the problem has been resolved. thank god it wasnt the turbo and i thank all of you so much for your amazing advice with my problem. this site and your advice is fantastic |
