Yep - it's subjective - but there is a world of difference in their performance.

Thanks chaps. I don't need it to tear my face off to be honest, ive got something else to do that in, but I suppose I want to get the best I can for my budget. Are the v8 gearboxes more reliable?

V8's have stronger gearboxes, but can have EGR & Turbo issues - each model seems to have their own particular weakness, that whilst don't affect most, provides a common enough pattern to cause people to worry...... |

Indeed. I suppose that is the case with all things. My current ml suffered with 'black death' injector seal maladies (and more) and to be honest has been complete rubbish.

I appreciate that this is a subjective thing but a bit of fairness and balance too would be good. I find it utterly mad to suggest that the tdv6 is hopelessly underpowered and incapable of overtaking a lorry on a cross country A road. Sorry but I have driven both and probably don't drive like you do but find the tdv6 superb. |

I think the tdV6 is different again. I had a jaguar with that engine and was impressed but the BMW derived inline 6 is a bit older and I've never had one...

The TD6 is a perfectly acceptible power plant unless mine has some kind of hidden turbo, as per my previous mail, its horses for courses, drive them both then decide |

Hi, had my td6 18 months now. I'm very happy with it's performance although it has been chipped.

The TDV6 is a completely different beast than the TD6

The TD6 is a tractor, just type in the search box here and you'll find at least 237 post saying so

On a lighter note mike, just watching car sos there doing a corvette this week, tim shaw has taken the auto gearbox to a specialist, in the background up on a lift was an l322, sniggered to myself it's probably a td6 |
