A few months ago I have front offside lower arms and CV Joint replaced. I had to return to the garage a couple of times afterward as was getting creaking from the fixed area, turns out it was a Faulty lower arm and was replaced. A couple of weeks later I had to return as there was grease spattered over the wheel and wheel arch.

Apparently a faulty gaitor (who would have thought genuine parts would be faulty so much!) Again, fixed and seems fine since. Last week had front discs and pads replaced at a different garage and he said the clip has come off the CV joint and the gaitor has moved again.

Is this common? Is there a special Jubilee clip or zip tie I should be using or ordering? Keen to avoid another 1K bill!

Yes there is a special clip which needs a special pair of pliers to attach it sir...

Also check you have not had a rear gated sent to you by mistake sir They will fit but pull off all the time as they are different from the front ones! A common mistake made by parts people I’m afraid! (a very expensive one too!!!)

How do I check?

Look at both sides OS - NS and see if they are identical? And compare the replaced one to a rear one on your car sir

Apparently it was a full kit from Land Rover. I must just be very very unlucky.

Better fitting the stretchy rubber CV boots, they are more plyable and last much longer

I don't wish to cast dispersions on your garage but are you sure they did the work the first time, a faulty arm sounds a bit weird, it's an arm with a bush in it and maybe a balljoint at the other end, depending on which one it is...

Did they do the old trick of cleaning the gaiter and super-gluing it back together, this then failed throwing grease everywhere... and when they did replace it they used a cheap pattern part...???

I hope not and you're just unlucky this time but it does sound a bit odd.... Pete

It seems odd. I have spoken to the garage and they say that the boot doesn't have a clip to attache to the shaft side. As I am typing this it sees to make sense as obviously the shaft needs to rotate in order to drive the wheel.

But if thats the case how does the grease stay in? Any help appreciated.

The shaft and the CV joint and the boot all rotate at the same time. I think you need to find another garage if they think it shouldn't have a clip

Sounds about right!! Know any good LR garages near by anyone?
