Have you considered the new Sport ?

If I didn't require the space, I'd probably have bought one of those Whistle

Hi Alistair . Yes the SVR is on the radar.

The only real sticking point to the SDV8 is the fact that the TDV6 is quieter and more refined (but on the other hand, the SDV8 is quicker and has Active Roll Control).

Yes I keep hearing this Trommel ,but as they are so close on price i feel cheated to buy the 3.0ltr even though i know its good.

SDV8's extra performance and active anti-roll definitely swings the balance.

It's not about the extra speed (though it's nice to have it there when you have the need/want to fly Laughing ) for me it's about refinement which is one of the main reasons for me to choose this car in the first place. The diesel (especially the 4.4) is the antithesis of refinement due to its levels of noise, vibration and harshness. The diesel engine is so far behind the likes of BMW, Merc, Audi in the same way as the infotainment package is! In addition it has absolutely awful turbo lag which makes it a frustrating drive. I can't see the point of spending north of 100K on one of these and then spoiling the whole experience by having a diesel for the sake of saving a few grand on fuel.

Interesting that no-one has mentioned the hybrid, the V6 is meant to be quieter/smoother and the battery is claimed to put performance up to 4.4 level, is it too complex and so too risky?

I was told by a dealer that the Adblue tank is under the bonnet rather than in part of the diesel tank space. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Would like a 5.0 but with 50 to 150 miles everyday I couldn't blow a grand a month 15 20 mpg on fuel and having a mate with one your right foot can't help going down more often as they do fly but Craig's old chariot isn't no slouch Seems quiet to people for a diesel some thought it was petrol 😳 Thumbs Up _____________________________________________________

I'm in the SC camp. I had two SDV8 and they drove me mad with the soundtrack, NVH and turbo-lag. I generally seem to be getting about 10 mpg less than the diesel so when there is a differential in fuel prices it is not quite so bad. I'm currently on track to do about 20k miles this year. Best consumption on the trip [optimistic as we all know' has been 34mpg.

The instant go and the soundtrack is a plus. Yes I fill up more regularly but it doesn't feel that often.

Had new 4.4 v8 for 18 months... Picked up the 5.0sc in Sept...... Car feels more refined, slow traffic/cruising/towing........ Couldn't go back to Diesel...

My friend's has been flawless so far, and I suspect it's done more km than most. Never goes off-road or tows anything though.

Re turbo lag - do you mean how slow it is from rest? Actual turbo lag on the move is not an issue unless you're holding it in gear.

Buy the Supercharged; I am on my 9th Supercharged and wouldn't buy a diesel, if your worried about fuel economy or depreciation then don't buy a Range Rover! If you can stretch to it buy the SV Autobiography Supercharged it has 550bhp. Perfect on and off the road and can keep up with the best of them.

SC seems to be the favorite at the moment from most of you guys . Fuel is not really a problem for me as i have only done 20k miles from new in my 11mdl.RRS.
More of a problem is trying to find one for sale if you did not go new they are quite rare. Where as the 4.4.AB there is plenty of choice.

You need to drive them both

I'm very happy with the SDV8 - I love the torque and don't find the noise too intrusive - there's a lot of them out there for a reason.....

I agree Alistair. I will be back in the Uk at the end of January and will be looking to try them back to back then.
As you say they cant be that bad as they are popular.
I love the thought of the SC but perhaps you can have a little of both worlds with the 4.4. will have to wait and see.
