I also put it into Neutral , not technically minded or think about wear and tear , mostly think about the poor sod behind me having red spots in his eyes especially at night .

Some people put on handbrake, but leave it in Drive, I didn't like doing that either, kept thinking it'll wear out my handbrake mechanism as well...seriously!!! |

The User Manual says: When stationary in traffic, select N (Neutral) to improve fuel economy and air conditioning performance; and: Select neutral when the vehicle is stationary and the engine is required to idle for a brief period (at traffic lights, for example). Also: DO NOT allow the vehicle to remain stationary for any length of time with a drive gear selected and the engine running (always select N if the engine is to idle for a prolonged period). |

All autos I've driven/owned have been the same, and had similar instructions in the manual.

Since upgrading my alloys to 19" and getting increased vibration at idle, I now put it into neutral when stationary, it stops ALL the vibrations. I find that just weird. It doesn't make sense. Discovery 4 HSE

I get a little vibe that comes thru the gear selector when sitting idling with the box in D. The vibe dissappears when shifting to N or P. Whatcha think? Is it gonna blow up? |
