The TCM (transmisson control module) is inside the gearbox, not the TCCM (transfer case control module). However being able to change ranges proves that the TCCM is functioning at least to a degree, which it would not if drowned. It does not demonstrate that the centre diff is not locked although one would expect a fault to be recorded if the TCCM was not working fully.

Brake pad wear sensors only trigger the instrument warning and height sensors only connect to the suspension ecu and have no ability to cause brakes to be activated.

Going back to the start . . . you say that the inner rear wheel is skipping when turning. Can you be specific on this, when it does a skip is the rear wheel:

- jumping forward, trying to move faster than the ground underneath it ?
- dragging backward, trying to move slower than the ground underneath it ?

(forward suggests centre diff lockup - torsen diff on that model year? )
(rearward suggests traction control brakes hold it back - ABS problems )

Regarding water ingress, considering that your having possible brake rated errors and you've been off roading, suggest you unclip the large loom from the ABS actuator module and make sure its dry inside there. the connector on my old RR was not a sealed connection and did let a small amount of water through it. The connector on the ABS module is upwards facing and has no means of draining water out of it. The result being that a small amount of water got in and corroded the pins, causing errors. I'll not go into the means by which I fixed it, but suffice to say it was a bodge involving a small piece of paper clip ! V8 or else ...

MY07 has electronic clutch in centre diff, not Torsen. TDV8 was introduced with MY07.

I don't like the TCCM adaptive clutch as its limit fault but the hard-on ABS fault and the string of invalid bus data faults that could occur if no speed message is seen on the HS canbus suggests the ABS ecu is likely to be the primary cause.

Have you disconnected the battery for 10 seconds to see if the ABS fault is still hard-on after reconnecting the battery, having forced a cold start of the ABS ecu?

Battery has been disconnected and I've clamped the two terminals together whilst I have lunch so we'll see. I have had the battery disconnected before for >10s but that hasn't changed anything. Just before lunch I got the multi-pin connector off the ABS module and that looks perfectly clean.

It's booked in with Craig for next week, Dad and I are off to visit my grandparents this evening so decided to let Craig have a look. Hopefully he can work his magic...

I did ask to have the gearbox flushed at the last service but given the low cost I don't think they did a full flush and I haven't had a moment to check with them. Ed

Right - final update (hopefully).

Turns out it was the centre diff, in a manner of speaking. Thanks to Craig he narrowed it down and the transfer box was "contaminated" (a.k.a. drowned by the sounds of it) in water causing the LSD to misbehave. Now to have a decent look when I change the oil again and see why water might have got in. Ed

Ed, did it need a new one or did an oil change sort it out... must be different from the earlier ones as mine has sat totally submersed in water on more than one occasion and never has any water at all in it.... Pete

It has just had an oil change and re-calibration.

It is different I think - the earlier L322s had a NV225 box whereas mine is a Magna Steyr DD295. Craig reckoned it was probably condensation - although it seems a bit odd that it was exasperated straight after some deep water on Strata.

It has come back very slightly (no where near as bad as before) and intermittently but I have some more oil sitting by. Craig's transmission guy recommended replacing the oil after it's had a decent drive as it's likely to have flushed more stuff out - probably why it's back but intermittent. Hopefully I'll get a chance to get underneath it tonight outside the house and change over the oils in both the transfer box and diffs. Might as well sort that out whilst I have the backup of the Defender.

Whilst I'm there I'm going to take a look at the breather pipes etc to see if they're perhaps a bit loose or something along those lines which could have caused it to come in. Ed

Craig guess it may have been condensation Ed! As that is what seems to occur in the rear diff of the 3.6 & SC constantly... Could just as easily be a leak and given this info...

It looks more likely to have been caused by a leak sir Craig is NO trans expert! Just the findings of the specialists we use
