How do you carry bicycles?

On the LR website, it seems that the rear bike carriers require a tow bar. Are there aftermarket ones available that do not need a tow bar for fitment?

Second question, is putting a bike on the roof easy ....I suppose you need side steps for this ?

Thanks.

The only roof bars I could find require the permanent installation of rood rails - I could be wrong but I couldn't find any others.

When I bought the L405, I sold my Thule roof bars & cycle carriers.

I think it's because of the glass roof.

As far as I know, lowball mounted is the only way to go - you could possibly get something that hangs off the tailgate & sits on the bumper, but I wouldn't fancy it.

On the L322 I needed a step to do it safely.

I see! .... so the Land Rover Roof Rails are £818.00, crossbars are additional £357.00 and then one bike carrier is £139.00.

Not cheap! For my family of 4 that would cost £1731.

Indeed - I bought a car with a tow bar Thumbs Up

Plus I don't like the permanent rails & I can only just squeeze into regular height on the EuroTunnel as it is Whistle

I hear you Alistair !

It seems an absolute no brainer to spec a new car with a tow bar, considering its only a £900 option, while retrofitting it is£3000. Surprised therefore there are so many used cars without tow bars.

Okay, so bought a car with a tow bar .... any recommendations for a 4 cycle carrier. I hear ones from Thule and Altera are good but would like to hear personal experiences.

I have the Atera 3/4 bike rack and it is very good. In particular, the facility to slide the whole rack away from the rear of the vehicle to give access into the boot is a must have.

My car is one of those without a tow bar ( Big Cry ) so does anybody have any suggestions for me to carry 2 bikes at the back? I don't fancy risking putting them on the roof with all that glass!!

The RR is the one of the best towing cars available on the market, and its therefore surprising that Land Rover did not make it standard fitment, rather than an optional extra.

I would personally look to add a tow bar. It will improve the resale of the car as well. There are then a huge selection of tow bike carriers ....Thule does an excellent 2 bike quick fit one for 60 GBP.

Two options ...

1). Fixed tow bar

2). Electrically Deployable Tow bar

1000 GBP vs 2000 GBP approx.

Gents, any tips on avoiding the power tailgate (gesture) opening while a bike rack is mounted on the towbar?
