Spare Wheel

Just discovered that my spare wheel is not the correct size (19" instead of 22" - don't ask).... Evil or Very Mad

Please can somebody confirm that a full size 22" wheel will fit in the under boot floor space in an L405 please.

Many thanks

Thumbs Up

Yep, mine has 22s and spare fits no problem. I'm guessing it's not the lightest of things but hopefully if you ever need it you might get someone to give you a lift Laughing

They fit

You can also get a hoist kit to help remove it from the boot - Dan sells them Thumbs Up

I was specifically warned, by my Indy, when searching for a car, to check the spare wheel is the same size as the ones on the car.

He said that many of the FF's they service, have different size spares so it's quite common. And that's with standard sizes. With 22" wheels I'm guessing only 4 were bought and no spare replaced. 2017 5.0 Autobiography Supercharged

^ Yes, but the rolling diameter will be the same regardless of rim size. a 19" could still be used as a spare without issues as long as it uses the same nuts as the 22's on the car.

Oh, so now I'm confused.

Is it possible then that the 19" rim actually would work as a spare....certainly the LR Assist chap wouldn't put it on, but then he may not have understood this.

How can this be checked??

Thanks for all the help guys.

just regard the 19'' the same as a space saver wheel, fit it [if needed] to get you home...

but as Dom says , make sure you have the correct nuts to secure it onto the FF.. ... - .- -.

Easily. Plenty of calculators online. This was a quick shufty I managed. Different rims require different profiles of tyre, hence the RR (rolling radius) remains relatively constant.

Remember, the profile number is a percentage of the width of the tyre so if you increase width without reducing profile the RR gets bigger.

So, just when I thought I could use the 19" wheel as a spare it turns out that the studs don't line up, it's obviously not going to work.

So, it's back to the drawing board. Need to buy a 22" rim and put one of my spare types on it or a proper space saver spare for the L405.

Damn.

So, does anyone have a 22" rim or a space saver spare for an L405 for a reasonable price?

Whistle

As has been mentioned, its the overall rolling diameter that is important. e.g. a big wheel with a low profile tyre can have the same diameter as a smaller wheel with a fatter tyre.

Some manufacturers even use cheaper wheels for spares as standard. I once had a Renault Megane which was fitted with alloy wheels and low profile tyres from new. The spare wheel was a smaller steel wheel with a higher profile tyre. It is OK as a get you home but would probably fail an MOT (as would a space saver).

Incidentally, when I bought my second-hand FF, it had newer 20" wheels, whilst the spare was an original 18" wheel. I used it once and it ran perfectly with no ill-effect. I have since swapped the lot for 5 19" wheels bought from Dan. No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

Yep, but I've seen plenty of non standard sizes Craig. Generally the 22's tend to be 265s but I've also seen 285/35/22 tyres fitted. As I said, there are plenty of calculators online which would give an equivalent rolling radius for a different sized rim.

That said, my OCD made me change my space saver for an identical 20" rim bought from a member on here. Laughing
