United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Java Black
Idle sppeed

Evening everybody , going to Cornwall on Saturday now all of a sudden TD V8 vogue sounds like it is ticking over a little fast.
Can anybody tell me what the correct speed should be..... Hopefully it's me getting a little paranoid

Cheers

Can you lower this manually or is it a dealer option?

It's not adjustable by anyone, it's set by the engine ECU, if it's wrong there is a fault... Pete

You don't really want it to go lower. Each pulse of a cylinder igniting even at idle creates a large pulse of torque down through the engine, (cause the crank will have lost rotation speed between pulses) making it twist and shake. So it will try to twist on its mounts and then return to original position on each pulse. Lowering idle speed to allowing that would vastly increase the vibration.

But if you then have it such that the next cylinder pulse comesquicker or before it can settle back, then it will stabilise on the mounts and be smoother.

Explains why v8s sound and feel smoother than straight 4 blocks, esp at idle. V8 or else ...
