If Landrover can cite UK weather as a reason not to tackle corrosion nothing would surprise me Howard

members/owners should check also, that these tailgate bolts are not un-doing themselves, as I found both of mine were a couple of turns out...its the slight rotation effect of the wires being folded, (I believe) that will undo a loose/or perhaps strained bolt. -only for the owner/guest to sit on said tailgate to change his/her boots, and in an instant, -offer his/her bulk to the mud!

on the 06MY i drive often i have replaced both units at the rear and by god they were really rusted in place!! Glad the torx screw has gone for a better bolt design! I applied a load of grease to mine and then peeled the rubber back a little and shoved loads in there to to make sure it should push moisture away and they should last at least another 10years now FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Thanks for the comments everyone. Here's the image showing the rust which appears to have allowed the bolt to pull through. Bit underwhelming for a 2012 car dont you think? Will post warranty verdict in due course

Disappointing indeed. The 2012 vintage does seem poor for corrosion. If it was mine, I would be asking LR/its dealer whether this falls within the 6-year perforation warranty. Only Range Rovers since 1988 |
