Hi all
I am in process of replacing the rear propshaft on a 2002 Td6 but want to replace the pressed in studs holding the rear end to the diff with bolts and nuts as the studs were just rotating with the nuts necessitating cutting the nuts off to remove them. Can anyone tell me what bolts and nuts to use? I cant find any info.

Also as an aside though the front end came away easily the rear end seems to be seized well onto the diff. Anyone have any tips to get it to shift? I am assuming it is just mated up to the flange on the diff so a pry should eventually free it off?

Minimum grade 8.8 high tensile bolts that fit the holes, nylock nuts, flat washers. You want them long enough to fit through, get a washer each side and the nut on with a thread or two sticking out. Bolts are measured along the thin part of the bolt, WITHOUT the depth of the head,

When you have unbolted the rear prop just give it a whack with a hammer, it'll be rusted in place... Pete

Well sourced a new prop with the studs pressed in so Will just replace like for like but do need new nuts. Anyone know the size? Can't find this on rave or workshop manual.

Take one of the old studs to B&Q, Halfords etc and try some out, strangely nuts aren't rated, unlike bolts, personally I always use stainless ones when replacing them...

I doff my hat to that impressive hammer display! All shiny, and loved, with particular stories to tell. Even to the useful baker's dozen toothbrush tub below. Did you used to practice a little panel beating back in the day Pete? . With no doubt a drawer full of shiny dollies to work those hammers in perfect unison. Or even beechwood lead loading dollies?

And sausage fingers? from a happy life of tool-time!

It is the one thing that experience teaches you when you do a lot yourself on cars.... hit it harder, get a bigger pry bar, get it glowing red hot... etc etc
