Guys,

Looking for a bit of advice and opinions here.

Our SC is due a service and MOT on 5th December. Last year I took it to Team Valley LR in Gateshead and had a weekend away visiting my sister who lives down there. This year it doesn't look like I'm going to have time.

The car is a 2006 that has just ticked over 91k and has only done 1,900 miles since it's last service & MOT last December. About 500 miles ago I changed the gearbox, transfer box, front diff and rear diff oils, changed the air filter, and replaced all 8 spark plugs.

After speak to Team Valley they've said that the car is due an Inspection Service this time around anyway which I believe is basically an oil & filter change along with a pollen filter.

This car has only ever been serviced or repaired by Land Rover dealers and has a fully stamped service book along with all of the invoices to back it up.

Anyway, enough rambling... all of my older non LR cars I service myself and make a note of the date/mileage at which it was done and keep the receipts for the genuine parts and oils that I use.

My question is, would a service history changing from main dealer to owner/enthusiast servicing at this age/mileage put people off buying a car or have a detrimental effect on the value come resale time? Obviously all of the parts and oils would be genuine and the receipt would be in the folder.

I'm reluctant to go anywhere near Taggarts for a service given the problems that we had with the AB.

At the age of the vehicle it won't make any difference as long as you buy genuine parts and keep all receipts alongside the service book and anyone seeing this should not be concerned

I buy cars generally around the age / mileage you are talking about.

I keep a nice log of mileage date, receipts. When I see most vehicles around the age you are saying, majority hardly have any paperwork, so for yours to have FSH dealer up till now, plus a little log with mileage and receipts would certainly make it to the top of the pile.

At the value and age of the car it is now it makes little difference. Howard

I would think twice and would want the value to reflect self servicing as anyone can buy good parts but a lot of people don't actually know what they are doing. I have previously bought a car maintained by an 'enthusiast' and only once I got to know the car did I start to find his bodges, like using hosehold 240v cable and bolts far too long for the brake calipers padded out with about 5 washers!

That said I service my own RR as I know I'm capable and unlikely to sell in the near future.
