Hi Guys, Got into the car last night and the Key wouldnt turn in ignition, bar about 3mm, interior lights work fine but no radio. no lihgts on dash either, Heard a clicking noise from behind the dash & that was all the car would give me

AA cam out & messed about with it, eventually took battery off and reconnected after 5 mins & car started.

Got home & tried restarting the car again and again it went back to the click click click.

Any ideas ?

I suspect your battery is beginning to fail, first indicator is the steering lock won't disengage, can't turn ignition on, etc, everything else, central locking, interior lights OK.

I had a similar experience a week after buying my RR, all OK, stood in garage 4 days, steering lock wouldn't go off, as you have...............you will find similar posts using the search. Regards

Thanks for the reply, The steering lock was not on, simply wouldnt start, The AA checked the battery and said it was fine, Maybe I should go to a battery place and get it checked by them. Thanks again

The steering lock comes on automatically when you take the key out. The battery can be on its way out and still test ok on just voltage but if you do a load test on it it may show the issues. Since the winter is coming I would suggest to replace the battery anyway if it is older and it is showing these issues just to have peace of mind.

The L322 and lots of other modern cars are quite sensitive to a slight dip in voltage of a dying battery. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

The AA guy seem to this it was an ecu problem (scary thought on replacing it)

The clicking you can hear behind the dash is the steering lock locking and unlocking, that is done by the chip in the key being recognised by the immobiliser... There is also a solenoid operated plunger that prevents the key from turning and it sounds as if this is the one that isn't working.

It's a common fault as said above and is usually fixed by a new battery, when installed get the charging system checked as well, should charge at 14.4 volts.

If it still does it with a new battery then it could be the ignition switch itself or as the AA man said the BCM Pete

Hi Guys,
Just fitted a new battery and the car started first time.

However i swithced it off and tried to start it again and nothing but the click click click !

Any ideas ?

Have you tried another key? might be the transponder in the key - alo try to fully charge the battery, it might have been sitting on the shelf at bit!!

If you get a click behind the steering wheel then that is the transponder working, AFAIK (and the information is not definitive from all I have read) the problem could be the steering column lock, if it doesn't unlock fully then it won't let the car start, the way to check this is, when it goes click click and the key won't move, remove fuse 18 from the fuse box in the passenger footwell, leave it out for 30 seconds and then put it back in, make sure it goes in the right place as there are unused fuse slots... if it then works let me know and I'll type some more....  Pete

Hi RP,

I only have 1 key unfortunately, I have just disconnected the battery and restarted the car to let the battery charge up off the car incase it was a bit low.

Once ive ran if for a bit ill try again
Can i get the transponder check at my local RR dealer ?

Ill give fuse 18 a try too Pete and advise

I had a problem with with a occasional non start. When turning the key there were a few 'beeps' from around the centre console and nothing else - . This turned out to be the ignition barrel (as mentioned byPete).

Pulled fuse 18 and left for 30 secs put it back in & car started but would only start once then back to the clicking.

Pulled the fuse again and car started again ?
