help identify this issue

Well looks like it's another black mark to the 322, if this carries on a land cruiser will be on the cards. Evil or Very Mad

I'm not sure but do I guess this is rear engine oil seal gone or is it more serious. It's only just happened as Craig said was all good underneath after its service on box oils.

I will have a better look in the morning, will check gear box oil and engine oil to see if it's milky. If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

Confused hmm ok Didn't think that would give that kind of leaky oil drips, but will have a look in morning.

After a quick search it seams it could be transmission oil, either way its not timed well for the FF to throw a hissy at the moment.....Need it for towing soon as well..... Big Cry If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

What colour is the oil? (Could be difficult to identify engine oil if you had recently done changed all the oils at Craig's recently?

Maybe have to clean it down and monitor. Howard

Gear and transfer box and both diffs oils done not engine oil.

The oil is a yellowy colour and was dripping quit a bit from the bellhousing when parked up earlier after a 25 mile drive ( I only looked underneath too have a check how the ac drain pipes where as I only had one puddle under the FF at work!

Oh and the best scientific test to see if it was coolant mix.......it does not taste of antifreeze either, yes I did..... Embarassed Thumbs Up

I guess a seal has gone and will need replacing ( or the above gasket as per Pete's post) If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

Shocked Shocked Don't do it!! Shocked Shocked Landcruiser, wash my mouth out, are extremely over rated and over priced.

A 100K landcruiser will cost you 25% more than a ffrr, the parts make JLR look cheap, bordering on bargain basement / firesale. And they have their weaknesses, they say that the only broken landcruiser you'll see is one that hasn't been properly serviced.... CRAP Shocked There are fundamental weaknesses in the drive train, the gearboxes aren't much better that the ffrr's and if you can find someone brave enough to try and repair one, it will fail, repeatedly. The brakes are inferior to the ffrr's, the hydraulic / coil / torsion bar suspension has a mind of it's own. I could go on for hours, but I think you get the gist.

Oh and to top it off, I'm getting 20% better MPG in my ffrr, and I do some serious towing.

And how do I know these things? I had 12 years / 420000 miles towing in landcruisers, and I was the senior engineer at the place I was employed at, and I did one hell of a lot of repairs on the fleet of 15 landcruisers / patrols. Yes they work and do what is says on the tin, BUT, they are no better than a ffrr, and they are inferior in quality and finish. The only thing they do better than a ffrr is 7 seats Thumbs Up

If your incontinent ffrr is dropping yellow / straw coloured oil, it is not the gearbox, as tranny fluid is red Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Good to know that, as I can narrow my search around the transfer box, still guessing a seal has decided to fail Sad

@ miggit, you must of had all the 'Friday' cars built Laughing
Thats not good to here, I guessing they where the amazons?, my old 80 amazon was fine, no issue apart from a leak from the front crank shaft oil seal that just weeped. I sold her with 225k on the clock, still pulled like a train, as you say they do what it says on the tin Thumbs Up
I have been looking at the face lift amazon, mighty expensive for the milage on them too Shocked If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

Looking like it's the rear engine oil seal weeping, not gear box or gaskets as back of engine is nice and clean.

Cleaned up area and inspection rubber bung cleaned, engine run up warm.
armed with lamp and you can see inside an oily mess.

So now to find some kind sole to change it for not a lot of smarties in return Laughing ......oh I love the green oval..... Wink

Whip the box out on the drive... it's easy... Laughing Laughing

With a ramp it's actually a not too bad job, I think the book time is about 5hours for an out and back in...

Your dilemma now is do you put a new torque converter in there as well... how many miles has it done, how good is the gearchange, is there much swarf in the gearbox sump???? Pete

Hmmm I know, I just got the box flushed at Craigs too Evil or Very Mad

RR done less than 90k so the tc should be ok for a few years left....but then I will be towing more next year with the box!

Always seems to be the case though when you do something...something else rears it's ugly head when you least expect it. If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

I agree with Miggit our company Landcruiser we had in Lagos had more issues than my not super reliable 4.2.

I guess it is just bad luck that the seal went just after the fluid change or maybe there wasn't enough fluid in the box before the change to make it leak. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!
