Does the 'miles left' change at the same time? |

the gauge is governed by the 2 in tank sender units, it basically takes an average of both of the units, and displays this as the reading. It could be that one of the senders is at fault and the gauge is having a dicky fit dos it doesn't understand the inputs its getting.

Sounds like one of the senders to me, common issue, as long as the miles left doesn't change it should be a sender, pain in the proverbial but sometimes sort themselves out, not much help I know |

Coming from the D3 side I can only explain the characteristics of a D3 and add I have had experience of this "feature". The easiest way to explain it is imagine it is a clock(timepiece), when the fingers go past 12 the next figure is 1, this is what is happening with your gauge the needle is slightly out of sync with the sender and is going slightly past full, this in turn is taking it to the next figure which is zero. Taking it further I have seen the opposite situation when the fuel is very low or when the engine has been switched off the needle has rested at full. I am sure it will correct itself when you have used some fuel. |
