If you have 7045E in the gearbox can I take it it is OK to mix Dexron VI with it during a first change? John

Well found a tub of 20l of dexron VI for £82.50 delivered if anyone near Warrington/Manchester/Liverpool wants to go halves? Enough for at least one change and a partial flush if so wanted but I believe if drained when warm almost all the old oil bar maybe .5-1litre should be left in the box? FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I got 20 ltrs of Texaco 7045E for £87 ish delivered, that's 2 flushes or 4 oil changes Thumbs Up Just do a search for 7045E and you'll soon find a bargain Thumbs Up

Geoff the GM 5L40E's valveblock is made from cheese, but most of it is en croute (pastry, easier to shape and slightly more solid) Rolling with laughter

And Craig, I know that Phil's got a reputation sleeping and eating GM 5L40E gearboxes, but I don't think that it is literal, he might get the hump if you feed him just on gearboxes, you might want to consider opening the door and throwing a happy meal in there every now and then Wink Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... I had seen it had come down in price a little but why bother with an older oil? If Dex 6 is whats specced now then its going to be better for the box otherwise they would still be sticking with the 7045.

With Phil recommending it as well thats enough for me Very Happy FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I think you will find he is a ZF5HP24 man and doesn't have much to do with the GM box apart from sympathy.... Pete

Sorry Pete Embarassed , should have read "sleeping, eating and having nightmares" Rolling with laughter

And being a ZF man just makes it easier to spot the shortfalls of the GM box Laughing Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

RR phil has mentioned before that he will not respond to pm's or emails because of the great quantity he gets..

if you do have a question re gearbox's then post on the forum, any answers will help other members if they have the same problems. ... - .- -.

Hi Stan, I did do just that. I posted on the forum back in May about my gearbox issues and got no help except from haylands who tried his best. I gave up asking after that and my RR is still sat in the drive not working Sad 2004 RR 4.4 V8 Autobiography

Phil holds down a more than full time job as well, he does his best and gets on here when he can, as Stan says he has turned off his PM's as he was getting dozens a day.... Pete

The only feedback that the transfer box ECU (& indirectly the transmission ECU) receives to tell it what range is selected on the NV225 is the voltage signal from the shift motor potentiometer. If it loses that signal for any reason then it will immediately failsafe the transmission as it has no idea what range it’s in. You need to check that the resistance between pins 1 and 2 is around 4.7 kilohms.

This is the manual recalibration procedure for the shift motor :

It sounds to me like there may still be an issue with your inhibitor switch. I know that they’re stupid money to buy, so it would be pretty risky just to replace it, but I can certainly lend you one to try if you want to isolate the fault through substitution.

Phil
