Hope you can help.

Bit of background: Had the bong of doom recently for the front right abs sensor, good old Dan sorted a replacement for me. After removing the sensor (what a job ) turned out that the abs ring was so rusted it fell off the cv joint!!. So once again Dan to the rescue with a new CV joint.

So all back in place no lights on the dash - however !- as soon as any power is applied the front right brake comes on - it's just like the hill decent in operation (pulsing on the brake ) but only on the front right. - If I put the hill decent on all 4 brakes work as per hill decent should do.

IID shows no faults..

If I disconnect the abs sensor there is no activation of the brake.

So I'm stumped

Any ideas?

I would guess that the new sensor is not quite home yet, they need to fit without any force being applied to them and sit absolutely flush with the mounting, the amount of rust I had round one of mine made it sit proud and give a similar problem..

Also had exactly the same problem with a pattern part that I had to get as I couldn't get a genuine one and needed to use the FF.. every time the sensor, which is totally sealed, got wet it put that brake on... I examined the entire sensor in great detail and could find nothing wrong with it, I swapped it out in the end for a genuine one and all has been well since... Maybe some of the sensors are just badly made... even the genuine ones....

My money is on it not seated right though..

Just had another thought, when you take it out can you see the reluctor ring through the hole, is it lined up correctly?? Pete

Thanks Haylands - It's a genuine from Dan - so I'll try to refit it and see - the teeth appear to line up , but I will check.

Update:
You were quite correct Pete. Tried another sensor and all is good

I think what happened was that when I put the new sensor in, the pick up ring (reluctor ring?) was rusted to hell and must have damaged the end of the pickup.

So for anyone replacing the abs sensor it would be a good idea to check the condition of the cv joint/reluctor ring before hand!!
