Oh so your one of those considerate drivers that lets me just guess when I've overtaken you when I'm towing Evil or Very Mad A word of caution I'm not too sure how you'd fair in an MOT test with HID mains, you might be lining yourself up for a D'OH! moment Wink As I said there are 100 watt bulbs out there and I vaguely remember seeing 130 watt, or that might just be a down grade for my KC Daylights..... might have to go and rob the Jeep Laughing Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... That's me Thumbs Up
MOT wouldn't be a problem, as the kits are plug and play it would be a 5min job to revert back to halogen for the day.
As I say I will give it some thought.

With HID beams already fitted, extra light is only going to help so much; it's more light, but in the same place - so not worth any great expense IMO. The only way of really improving it would be with a driving and/or spot beam to extend the range.

At least DISCO315 takes 15% off that. It's not cheap, but it's what high quality kits cost. Thumbs Up

Worth considering the heat produced though - in that respect, high wattage equivalent bulbs are generally safer for use in factory units.

i cant see the point in spending loads of money on something that is pretty non functional except for signalling other drivers...the factory xenons on full beam are more than adequate for our roads... ... - .- -.

@ CTC,

I like the idea of changing the H7 mainbeam tungstens to Xenon with a kit. Thumbs Up

Have you a link to the kit you used by any chance?

Thanks.

I don’t have a link I’m afraid as we buy ours through a trade supplier but they are made by Phillips if that helps? They are expensive compared to the others shown on here RRP is a little over £200! But then, you get what you pay for Whistle

Mine have been fitted for 3 years now... NO problem with flash & never a problem with an MOT as they are “e” marked & 100% street legal etc...

Wifeys 2015 D4 facelift headlamps do NOT have a separate full beam light! One bi-xenon light that does both headlamp & full beam! NO problem with flashing them either! Whistle

Bow down I'm only quoting what other people say, and if HID's are instant response, why don't LR fit them to the mains as standard? Other than being cheapskates Laughing Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

I'd wondered when glancing at one the other day how they managed in that regard. I'd be interested to know how bulb life compares.

How have Phillips managed to get European type approval on a gas discharge lamp with an H7 cap? Whistle Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

As I understand it Type Approval relates to the performance of a combination of lamp and reflector not the lamp only.
The problems start when lamps are used in non conforming reflectors designed for use with H7 lamps.
Personally I can't really see a problem with the use of xenon lamps in Main Beam fittings, the Regulations are after all very limited as regards use of Main Beam as they are with Auxiliary lamps.

The bulb does need approval too though, to get it's E mark, and as a gas discharge light source, it comes under ECE Regulation 99, which states:

Quote:
3.3.3. Gas-discharge light sources shall be equipped with standard caps complying with the cap data sheets of IEC Publication 60061, third edition, as specified on the individual data sheets of Annex 1 to this Regulation.

The H7 cap is not to be found there. Wink

I quite agree though, that there shouldn't be any real concerns with main beam HID retro-fits, and we should be a lot more accomodating of them. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK
