Oh so your one of those considerate drivers that lets me just guess when I've overtaken you when I'm towing A word of caution I'm not too sure how you'd fair in an MOT test with HID mains, you might be lining yourself up for a D'OH! moment As I said there are 100 watt bulbs out there and I vaguely remember seeing 130 watt, or that might just be a down grade for my KC Daylights..... might have to go and rob the Jeep Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

With HID beams already fitted, extra light is only going to help so much; it's more light, but in the same place - so not worth any great expense IMO. The only way of really improving it would be with a driving and/or spot beam to extend the range.
At least DISCO315 takes 15% off that. It's not cheap, but it's what high quality kits cost.
Worth considering the heat produced though - in that respect, high wattage equivalent bulbs are generally safer for use in factory units. Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK Discovery 3 TDV6 Auto HSE Zambezi Silver |

I don’t have a link I’m afraid as we buy ours through a trade supplier but they are made by Phillips if that helps? They are expensive compared to the others shown on here RRP is a little over £200! But then, you get what you pay for |

Mine have been fitted for 3 years now... NO problem with flash & never a problem with an MOT as they are “e” marked & 100% street legal etc... Wifeys 2015 D4 facelift headlamps do NOT have a separate full beam light! One bi-xenon light that does both headlamp & full beam! NO problem with flashing them either! |

I'm only quoting what other people say, and if HID's are instant response, why don't LR fit them to the mains as standard? Other than being cheapskates Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

As I understand it Type Approval relates to the performance of a combination of lamp and reflector not the lamp only.

The bulb does need approval too though, to get it's E mark, and as a gas discharge light source, it comes under ECE Regulation 99, which states:
The H7 cap is not to be found there. I quite agree though, that there shouldn't be any real concerns with main beam HID retro-fits, and we should be a lot more accomodating of them. Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK Discovery 3 TDV6 Auto HSE Zambezi Silver |
