saxtons chelmesford

with great trepidation my wife an i visited saxtons yesterday expecting the worst but it
was a very pleasant experience..
the amount of FF's for sale was impressive and we were approached by two different sales persons who politely asked if we were ok, thats it , no pressure sales or the like....
the FF's were clean and tidy but not tarted up with tyre paint etc so you could see what you were buying...
i probably wouldnt buy from them because of the higher prices they charge but fair play to them they have a nice set up..

United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 V8 Bonatti Grey

Very happy with my purchase from them 6 months ago ( 05 vogue se ab ajv8) which has i have said on another thread has caused me no grief at all so far Very Happy The car was supplied a couple of weeks late due to a gearbox fault which was noticed by themselves. It went to grays transmissions for a rebuild and new torque converter both covered by a two year warranty. I was furnished with the reciept for the work carried out direct from the transmission specialist.

The car was a one owner with full main dealer history with 80k mileage, since then i have introduced it to my local md so i can keep up the correct history. It went in last week for a squeaky lower rose bush and was given the free inspection with print out showing green accross the board.

To sum up i am happy with my purchase but had i read a lot of the negative reviews on here i probably would never had gone to look at their vehicles.

I don't even click on their cars when I'm looking on the trader, just due to some bad press. Don't have any experience of them.

This could be good to hear.......

I too think they have an ok set up.

Surely if every internet review was as bad in reality then they wouldn't be in business. Don't forget that people generally take to the Internet to vent their anger not praise anything good.

^ agree but they seem to get a disproportionate amount of bad reviews Whistle
I'm still waiting for a return call after enquiring about a car, but I guess after 5 years, it's not likely to come now. They had 1 chance and blew it! Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Buy the car not the dealer. Do your checks as per and I can't see any reason not to buy from them... 718 GT4

Saxton's of Chelmsford.

Maybe they have got better, but my experience was awful. Car was advertised at a certain price and when I turned up it was 1k more. Salesman (in the loosest possible sense) had to check with the boss that the lower price was right. Car had a BRC LPG conversion which was a positive for me.

First view was OK, but no chance of a test drive as the battery was flat (never heard that before on this forum Laughing ).

Picked it up...EML light on before I got home and no parcel shelf (my fault for not spotting this). Car trucked back to them at least three times due to EML light coming back on. Had a water leak and local LR Stealer would not touch it as it had LPG. Back to Saxton's who fixed it after a couple of weeks. Had a couple of Hire Cars from them, a 2006 RRS that was the biggest pile of crap I have ever driven and and Audi A4 carbrio that was very worn out. Despite some sterling service from Warren at AtoZ LPG, the EML still came on occasionally.

Would I ever go back there....I think not. My current car was from Ongar Bridge Motors also in Essex. Great service and real attention to detail and a 1k discount without serious haggling. Suspect the old Rangey from Saxton's is in the crusher Sad Avoid at all costs. SDV8 AB MY 2019

I stand by my statement. Easy to write negative reviews but in my experience there are always two sides to a story. They are a high volume dealer and there are always going to be the odd issues. Complaints on forums are often exaggerated.

It would be nice to know how many happy customers they have but that unlikely as I don't believe that are represented on this forum... 718 GT4

They aren't far from me and I was tempted by a few of the cars they had in November and December last year.

However, common themes surfaced when looking at reviews, chief of which was saying (on the telephone) or advertising one price but bumping it up when going to view and, good at sales but terrible after-sales support.

There were so many poor reviews that, for me at least, they couldn't be dismissed or ignored, especially when they are well written and thorough.

It's one thing spending a few thousand on a car and managing expectations but it's another thing entirely intending to spend several tens of thousands and not be confident in after-sales support. Hence why they didn't get my business.

I too read the reviews but called them anyway. Like alanm_3 above I'm still waiting for a return call (two years in my case). I think the reviews on here are well considered and one cant ignore the overall theme of feedback.

That said it may well be they were s Censored hit but have had to get their act together or fail - who knows really.

The stock looks nice on the web but photos always do. If Stan has seen the stuff in the flesh and his experience is good perhaps they have changed.

Dealers of all manufacturers often fail to call you back, most are sloppy in this regard. I've experienced this with premier brands such as Porsche, Mercs, Ferrari etc. That, to me, in its self is no reason not to pursue a vehicle held by them. However I would alway have an independent inspection before parting with my money.

If Saxtons had a vehicle I wanted I'd go for provided I'd covered my bases Thumbs Up 718 GT4

They are not that far from me so I went along when thinking of changing mine to a 3.6 and my old man to a 4.4 tdv8.

Neither of us bought from them but my view is as follows

Positives - there are so many Full fats there you won't believe your eyes! This in my view is the main reason to go there. You can go and see what colour/trim options you like and compare cars next to each other to see what works for you and what doesn't.

We had both been keen on design pack cars and Overfinch before we went there but both decided those options were too blingy for us.

They salesman was a bit 'smarmy' but to his credit let us have a decent test drive of a 3 year old TDV8 and priced up part ex prices for both of our old full fats

Negatives - Cost here was as much as a main stealer when looking at 3 year old examples

The biggest negative by far for us was the quality of the cars. I understand the view that you would rather see a car 'warts and all' before being tarted up by a dealer but I can honestly say that my 2002 with 110k miles on it was in better condition than some of the 3 year old 30k mile examples they had. The cars just tended to look like they had led a life of not being loved (lease/company cars?).

My old V8 was in no worse condition from when I bought it to when I sold it (4 years and 20k miles). My current car was owned by another forum member on here and at 6 years old and 80k miles is virtually unmarked
