TD6 2004: Very slow acceleration

Hi there,

Suddenly my car has lost power under acceleration. The engine starts normally without any strange sounds. In neutral the engine revs normally, it seems to be under load that I lose speed. When I (finally) come up to speed it drives normally under 2000 rpm. It feels like the engine is starving from lack of air or fuel.

Hopefull, someone finds these symptoms familiar and can help me in the right direction.

Thanks ! ----------

Check the small pipes to the vacuum reservoir on the inside wing above the turbo. If they are cracked, perished or come off then it wont pull under a heavy load.
Also check turbo hoses for any splits, etc.

Back in the day, when owners used to put petrol in TD6's by mistake! It used to Censored up the pumps. I can't remember which pump used to give your symptoms... One used to stop it starting, one stop it running and one stop it revving... Maybe do some googling as to which pump does what sir... Thumbs Up

Thank you, guys. I have searched based on your advice and read some of the other threads. My symptoms seem to be consistent with the secondary fuel pump failure. I have ordered a new one and will keep you updated.

Hopefully you've sorted it but I had exact same symptoms as you which turned out to be bad fuel.
Car reved free in neutral. But soon as in gear it had no power and would only rev to around 2800 max.
Drained tank. Changed filter and all ok!

Dunno if any help

Ensure to do the filter also, or else you will be doing another pump in a few months!

I replaced the filter last week with no difference in performance. Today the pump finally arrived, which I replaced without much difficulties thanks to the instructions in the wiki here. This solved the problem and the car runs fine again.

Thanks everybody for your posts. ----------
