Goodyear or Pirelli - which is best?

My original 21" Goodyear tyres are starting to look like a need for replacement soon after 41k miles (amazing for such a heavy vehicle) of varied driving across Europe including mountain tracks and river crossings. Apart from a lot of slight surface cuts they have worn very evenly and never punctured. The ride quality is OK and there is little road noise - grip is/was acceptable.

However, Goodyear isn't that popular here in Cyprus and tyre dealers are offering Pirelli instead.

Question is - will I be disappointed with the change - I have seen reviews on the Pirelli Scorpion Verde which suggests poor mileage and plenty of road noise.

Gentlemen - your comments would be much appreciated before I splash my cash!

Hi,

I have always fitted Pirelli Scorpion Zeros and find them quiet, grippy in slippery stuff (as much as primarily a road tyre can be) and the wear rate is not too bad. Mine are 255/50/R20's.

Cheers,

Andy. SDV8 AB MY 2019

I also used the Scorpion s on my L322 TD8 Vogue SE - albeit 19" and found them OK but never got more than 25k miles from a set. Road noise was pretty bad in the 322 so it was hard to work out how much was due to tyre noise.

These new Scorpion Verde seem to be a different animal

Recently bought a set of Michelin CrossClimate tyres for one of my vehicles and I'm impressed with them, so much so I think I may changing all my tyres to the CrossClimate when the time comes

I have never tried the Michelins on any of my past vehicles but my experience of tyres to date is that what works on one type of vehicle doesn't necessarily mean it works well on others - I remember fitting Bridgestone to a Landcruiser Amazon - they were dreadful but were brilliant on a Shogun (much lighter vehicle).

I appreciate the comments from Cam-Tech-Craig - I certainly don't want tyres that require extra careful thinking before driving up a kerb Cool

The reviews (American) on the Pirelli Scorpion Verde were very critical of the road noise generated - especially once they were half worn. I don't remember USA tarmac being seriously different to other mainland Europe - Spain has lovely roads and I exclude the rubbish UK road surfaces from my comparisons.

I don't expect any of these tyres to give serious off road grip (but I am amazed at the massively impressive off road ability from simple road tyres) and accept that all tyres make noise but I really enjoy the serenity experienced to date from the Goodyears.

I am listening to everything said with interest.[/u]

I was very impressed with the Michelin Diamaris on my old FF, though not sure they do them in the correct size. They wore well and were quieter than the Zeros which are ubiquitous. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
