TD6 Stuck in gear.

Hi all, looking for some advice, after three whole weeks of ownership with no major snags this happens. Driving home today all seemed ok with the FF until I got to a roundabout and when I pulled away the revs shot up and the car hardly moved, I managed to get up a side road and tried selecting manual mode but the car seem to be stuck in second gear, no matter what position (RND) I put the selector in it still wants to go forward. It holds it in park but it's still under strain wanting to go forward. No warning on dash and the gear select position on dash does as it should? Help!

Yikes, that sounds like a pickle!

All i can suggest first up is do a battery disconnect (and touch terminals to clear faults) to reset everything. and hope for the best!

Hi, yeah tried manual mode but it won't change gear, the dash indicator shows the numbers changing but it just jumps back to 2nd after a few secs. Will give the battery reset a go. Cheers.

If your stationary in manual mode the car will always revert back to lower gears after a few seconds sir... Self preservation! Why would it try pulling away in 4 or 5? It would at best damage it! At worst destroy something inside...

So, if you put it in P with the engine running, what does it do? Can you rev it like its in P/N properly? In P can you remove the key? Stop/start the engine?

Hi Cam Tec, Yes, in P I can stop, start remove key, it won't rev properly at all, if I give it any revs it just wants to surge forward. I can also stop and start the car in N to, but the car still wants to pull forward no matter what is selected. Not looking good, poss gbox change? Thanks.

Numb, of general curiosity, are you able to ignite the car when the gear selector is on "R" or "D"? What happens then? My TD6 gear box has once played a trick on me so that the car started to reverse vigorously on "D" after releasing the foot brake at the traffic lights. I cycled through all the gear lever positions and the box went back to normal. This has happened only once to me (during the first week of ownership). Since driven over 8000 miles and no problems whatsoever with the gear box.

Hi Sass, no, the car will only start in P or N. Got car plugged in to diog and no error codes found Shocked This is not a good start my FF experience.

Might be worth reading this and greasing the gear linkage cable. You might be lucky. Thumbs Up

Gear linkage was done when I got the car, all smooth and as it should be, will give the batt disconnect a go but I ain't hopeful. It seems like some kind of mechanical lockup. Will drop the oil on Monday and see if there is any metal in it and take it from there. The next saga will be to see what the dealer I bought it from wants to do, as it's over 400 miles away I'm hoping they will send the bits required and let the local Indi garage fit it.

Yeah, that's what I thought, I think Mackie's in Glasgow will be the closest and best for a rebuild, Any other recommendations would be welcome. I'll have to contact the dealer on Monday and see what there take on it is as i have only had the car just over three weeks. I hope we can come to some arrangement to let my own garage do the work, as I know his work is spot on, rather than the cost of a 400 mile recovery Big Cry I hope to keep the FF a long time and I want the best job done on it, rather than a quick fix. Thanks

A quick update, drained oil before removing box yesterday, very black and smelt of burnt toast. Lots of sludge in the oil which glistened in the sunlight like metallic paint, a few slithers of ally in there to, not good. Box sent away for refurb curtesy of the dealer. Hopefully won't take to long as I'm missing the rangie already.
