3.6 TDV8 Wont start help please

Hi having an issue for the second time with my 3.6 TDV8 07 Vogue. After a couple of days when I first got it there was a starting issue where the electrics came on i.e screen and dash lights and it wouldn't start was just trying to turn over, The AA came and jumped it and all was fine and he said it was charging ok. Worked fine since so assumed that it has been sat at the dealers and probably a drained battery.

That was until today, 2 weeks later, when after a 200 mile drive on Sunday went out to start it and the same issue again. Would not turn over.

My next door neighbor had a look and connected a spare battery and this wouldn't work so tried to jump it off his car and this wouldn't work.

The only way we got it going was to disconnect an intercooler Hose and put a flame to it and it started straight away no issues. We checked the battery and it was getting 13.59 v through it so he felt the alternator was charging ok. The battery is only 2 yrs old and the alternator was changed I think about 3 years ago from memory when I spoke to Land Rover Copley who had serviced and maintained the car from new for the previous owner.

My neighbor seems to think its some sort of cold start issue, The cold start light had gone out but he thinks there could be a fault here somewhere. I cannot find any information on this from searching on here. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Also does 13.59v seem ok from the alternator read that between 14-15 was right?

Thanks in advance.

To jump it you need a decent car to jump off.

I have a big V8 and a 2.5td that i use if i need to jump anything as it doesnt take them long to ge some juice into a vehicle and the quality of the jump leads helps a lot. cheap thin ones are just that, cheap Sad

If its spinning over it sounds like something else is a miss, maybe fuel pressure isnt high enough to allow the engine to start as unless the pressure meets a set minimum level the injectors wont be fired. Trying some diesel sprayed as a fine mist into the inlet tract while spinning over would help confirm this. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

i think its the battery....although it might read 13 odd volts ,it needs that on the crank and if the battery is failing it wont give you that to start the FF.. ... - .- -.

Battery and or alternator problems. Letting them go totally flat just about knackers them. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thanks for the replies I am going to get the dealer to look at the alternator to see if it is functioning as it should. The battery is only 2 years old and is a Bosch with a 4 year warranty so it shouldn't be that; he says!

Did the 753 hack and checked the battery and this was showing 14 v so not sure if this is significant. Is there any way I can determine if its the alternator or the battery causing the issue?? Also should i just buy a charger and give it 48 hours on this to build it up to see if that will solve any issues?

Bit of good news found the previous owners receipt for the battery and as its a bosch had a 4 year warranty so called andrew page where it was bought from and they swapped it for free, which was excellent,so brand new battery for nothing and a new 4 year warranty! Let's hope that was the issue in the first place!! Worth people checking the age of their battery and see if it still has warranty if they are having issues! Heavy Censored to get out of the engine bay though!!

I would be surprised if you got a new 4 year warrenty otherwise you would just keep changing it every 3 1/2 years 2015 Range Rover VSE 4.4 SDV8. 1998 BMW 840 Sport, 2008 Aston Martin DB9
