Yes matt i have

the bm54 upgrade is so far, only tested for about half hour, very good. all ranges of tone seem to be improved and the volume is immense, i can't even go too high, hurts my ears haha must be getting old @ 27 !

Its definatly worth the £150. It hasnt solved my sub on certain songs at certain levels sounding rubbish, so im going to replace it with 2x JL audio 6.5" subs and see if its just me picking very low bass songs, even though i would of thought the crossovers would sort it out clearly not.

A good job done there.

Its definately like the thick blanket has been removed from the speakers.

The Corsa boys don't know whats hit them now when I crank up the old Barry Manilow Laughing

The whole soundstage is much more controlled, has a wider bandwidth and is more delicate with a bit of finesse. Plus its loud as you like.

Craig has had good results just by changing the standard speakers with the standard BM54 to those speakers from the later 2005 plus cars, so I bet that is also going to improve things if you drop on a set of those.....

That's good think I'll save up and have mine upgraded too.

Very interested in how you get on with the sub update/install. Please will you photograph and document your upgrade as I also looked into the JL audio mini subs to replace mine when I looked into replacing the whole system a while back. Will be keen to know if they will fit in the enclosure as I believe the subs are quite deep.

I had the BM54 to stage2, aux socket, Ipod 30 pin, 4 channel RCA pre out and bluetooth (this is a tunestream unit on another 30 pin cable) AND the TV turner upgrade, originally I went for a stage 2 conversion with extra antennas but have since downgraded to stage 1 so I can have a reversing camera and video-in working OK.

This was upgraded and installed by Baris about a year ago and was worth every penny.

I've also installed a '57 sub (the big oval one) and simply used the rear-wire hole as an in for the original wiring....basically I doubled up the wires bridging the channels and feeding the sub more power. It's much better but still not quite good enough. So will be installing a JL audio 10" 300 watt shallow mount.

I will be replacing most of the standard speakers after that with Focals - if folk are interested I can try and do a write up as I go? (might take a few months to get around to doing it all though) 2002 Range Rover Vogue

yes a write up would be good!!

would you be able to elaborate a little more on the use of the big oval style sub as these are meant to be powered by a separate sub amp?

Could you confirm as I'm thinking about the stage 2 TV upgrade do you lose the ability for reversing camera and video in if you have the stage 2 upgrade?

Matt,

You're correct the oval sub comes with a small amp on the back - if you take this off the box you're left with a small harness leading to the speaker. I unscrewed the speaker - disconnected the wiring then created my own harness. four wires from the speaker joining up with the original 8 from my existing wires.

If the weather is OK this weekend I can take some pictures of that - it's a simple swap out for a good improvement. The sub I had clearly hadn't been used too much so needed breaking in but it's now sounding pretty good.

Next step is modify the old 2 6" box to take a 10" Sub. As I have the stage 2 upgrade with the pre outs I will add a small 1 channel amp to power it with a filter to remove anything over say 100hz 2002 Range Rover Vogue

Very interesting thanks for your input, is the oval speaker really a worthwhile upgrade.

i thought the 2x 6.5 inch subs have amplifiers built into them too, screwed onto the speaker magnets.

Did you just swap out the entire box/sub for one of the newer style, and run the 8 wires into it 4 on each coil?

Is the sub box easy to get out? i havn't even looked that far into it yet...

one thing to note about subs is that most are generic in as much as they will play all low frequencies okay but not great ,the type of music you listen should dictate the size of the speaker,If you listen to a lot of drum and bass tye music with long low notes you would need anything from 12" and above and if you like rock music with has a tight punchy bass you should be looking between 8" and 10" I always found a good active crossover works best with audio this is kind of like the DSP except you it would come after the DSP and Before the Amps. The whole car system could be upgraded and still look factory fit except for the subs most companies do head units now with parametric equalizers built in so you just put a mic where you head would be or where you want the music to be focused and it will work out the rest

Any news on how the system sounds with the new upgraded amps yet?

Very keen to find out if it's worth it?

Also does the digital TV stage 2 upgrade mean u lose the video in on the TV module?

Matt
