If you can push to an 09 onwards the iDrive was far better. Easily spotted by having the 5/6 buttons at the controller for the shortcuts.
The whole interface was improved and the mapping on the nav far better.

640d is the 3litre twin turbo which is pretty quick and returns good mileage.

I have a 2013 640d M Sport Coupe... It's excellent, if you can stretch to around £30k (£35k for a Cabrio) the new model with the 40d engine is exceptional, does 40 mpg and has a truely gorgeous interior Thumbs Up

It's also much more elegant than the Chris Bangle designed old model 6 Series IMO

Alan - Why do you say 650 over 645

Andy - Its for swmbo to get to work and back and she does not look after cars, so a small interior means less to get dirty and £30K is too much , she is unsympathetic and a kerb lover, fortunately she doesnt read this Rolling with laughter

Would be interested in the 650 over 645 info too. I knew a fella who had a 650 - he was in tears at the running costs most of the time!!. Is a 5 litre engine taking things just a bit to far? Exclamation 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

Ajac, doing some digging on other forums 'seems' the 650 has better fuel economy and some small interior updates but nothing that i can see that is a deal breaker Thumbs Up

Thats strange as the fella I knew was getting around 13 mpg in town and the novelty soon wore off. That said it was older than an 07/08 I think. Can only assume engine management systems have improved.

Good luck Thumbs Up 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

650 was the spiritual successor to the 645. They replaced it with the 5l engine and made some updates to the car at the same time.
IMO it's like comparing the 4.2SC with the 5.0SC, very similar cars but the bigger engine with slightly better mpg would sway it for me.

If memory serves the 4.5 engine is the same lump as the 4.4 FF engine, so if you can take the pain of a 4.4 FF, you won't be disappointed with the 6 Thumbs Up

My 545 was a brilliant car. They then dumped it and went 540 and 550 Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Strong money there. Whistle

Like everything else in life, if it's cheap it's for a reason. If you want a good 630 pm me.
(not asking opinions on the 630)

That 6 series 4 seater looks a lot like a SL class 2 seater
