Looking to scratch an itch - 6 series (revised )

has anyone got good/bad experiences or tips on the BMW 6 series convertible, circa 07/08. I have always liked them and looking to get one for swmbo. I had some BMWs back in the day but no current knowledge of them, would be looking at one with approx 50/60K miles

any help appreciated

Thanks in advance

I looked at a 645/650 a few years ago, I was amazed at how little room there was in it.

Still a classy looking car all the same Thumbs Up Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Second this, v tight in the back (in fact probably more so than ma's old e92)... in fact said 3er with a decent engine in it might be a good alternative, as metal roof comes in handy!

Thumbs Up

I am not bothered about rear space as very occasionally would it be used, also prefer the fabric roof, looking at some 630s, seem good value Thumbs Up

Still very tight in the front. Very high transmission tunnel really separates the front seats. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

had one a few years back. I thought it looked fantastic with the buttresses but the killer was the room.
it's a big car with no space inside it. I think a 3 is actually bigger in useful terms.
swapped it for a S4 then a jag both were much nicer

Thanks guys, Soggy - have had an s4 and a few jags so trying to scratch the itch, it will only be for swmbo 95% of the time as I look daft in convertibles (too tall), but I like looking at them , jeez, that sounds a bit weird Rolling with laughter

I'm sure you're stalking me Rosco Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

2 days ago I walked into the conservatory and announced to SWMBO that we're going to get a 645 convertible as soon as I've finished (make that started Very Happy ) the extension / new garage.

Initially I got one of those looks only a SWMBO can give but then a smile and "OK!"

I feel a two car blast from Kinlochleven to Tyndrum coming on Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Soz but for me a 6 series can't be the 3.0 - it's probably the sensible choice though.

SWMBO always liked these so we brought a black 2005 645 convertible about 2 years ago. I drove a 3 litre before we decided and there is no comparison, the power of the thing is awesome. 06/07 will be the first of the 3 litres I think - worth avoiding..

Setting engineering qualities aside after 18 months of ownership here is my penny worth....

Pros, power, boot space, economy for such a large engine 22.2 currently on average, ability to have the roof down quickly, driving position, comfort of front seats, ability to raise centre cubby to meet your elbow, shear style. Ability to leave most folk behind. No issues with the hood at all.

Cons - the whole dam car is controlled by something called a CCC. It s a microprocessor which controls sat nav, climate, audio etc. Search Bimmerfest - such a common fault. They ALWAYS break. Reapir costs about £350.00 with a new one costing over £700 plus coding. Road noise is a bit high even for a rag top. Run flat tyres!! - arrgh.

Make sure you also get the rear wind deflector (in a bag in to boot) without this the wind turbulence in the front seats is bad. Ours came with it but I think second hand and they fetch good money hence many are removed from the car.

Ours has a new CCC so hopefully all will be well but the time has apparently come for a change so looking for a nice 911.

It was never my choice but I would defiantly go for one again if I had the ability to own a second car next to the FF.

I suspect SWMBO will be looking for £10.5k 2005 with 68k miles.
