Removing the tow bar

My apologies for all the questions, I am still trying to get to grips with my first Range Rover.

I currently have this Westfalia tow bar (see image below) which was fitted from new, including the removable section in the cubby hole to the right of the spare wheel. I don't have any of the parts that were removed during fitting.



I don't need the tow bar, so thought that I would just remove it. It must weigh 30 kgs all in. In the searches I have found a link to the instruction manual, but it looks as if I remove it, I will need to buy some of the original parts that were removed during fitting. I think I need, the original plastic cubby hole liner and the two large end fittings, one of which has the original towing eye. The wiring loom seems to disconnect from just inside the spare wheel well.

Do I need any bolts or other fittings? Does anyone have the parts that they removed, that are in good condition, which I can buy?

As Stan says, leave it there.

The bracket you need to put back in its place weighs nearly as much as the tow armature.

Thanks guys, I can see you're absolutely right. I initially thought that carrying around 40kgs of towbar armature and kit for the next 5 years was a bit of a waste, if I wasn't going to use it and I could just keep it anyway to help sell the car when the time came. I have now removed the two parts that I can unbolt which actually weigh around 10kgs on their own.



So Paul as you say, the difference in weight is relatively small as the weight saving is only the additional weight of the cross member part of the armature.

I just need the plastic bowl to fit in the space I now have in the right hand cubby hole and I will have somewhere to put my tools instead of squashing them down the side of the spare wheel. It can't be too expensive so I have asked Dan to add one to my current order of parts.

the right hand side cubby hole is an ideal place to store a hydrolic jack.. Wink ... - .- -.
