Well here we are again got into the rangie, thanks guys. But now its super locked so even though were in the car
we cant open any doors or start the dam thing

Any ideas

Are you absolutely sure the battery has charge and is properly connected? Does the radio turn on? Key hasn't got wet or anything? Does the key turn off the steering lock when you put it on the ignition?

If you've managed to get in, I'd say now go change the battery, see if it makes the difference..

Edit: Just re-read the OP, you say you've got in, but can't open any doors.. So you're in the car, but the doors still super locked? If you're in, Pop the hood, disconnect the battery, then get hold of a donor battery and leads, or a boost pack, and try this:

If the above energises the car, and the key works, you're battery is FUBAR.. If not, I'd suspect a new key..

Battery has 12.8 v

Key does diddley squat.......wont turn in the ignition so no radio no idiot lights all doors locked

Zig, if you can get to the battery I would go for a disconnect and let all the modules discharge (internal capacitors etc) so leave for 15 mins. Then re-connect and try again.

Measured with a voltmeter off the starter, I presume? Although, just because it says that............ Now you're in, pop the hood and measure off the battery itself.. To rule it out, I'd still say swap it anyway, you know what these cars are like when it comes to voltage drop, they go and throw a huge hissy fit..

You can still turn radio on, just press the I/O button..

Nono, don't worry about turning the key, just does it turn off the steering lock when you insert the key?

Other than that, if the battery is good, it's time for a new battery for the key.. It is a 13 year old RR, all batteries eventually fail..

You could try moving the gear selector lever back and forth a few times just in case the gearbox inhibitor switch is out of position and then try again with the key. I presume the key casing is intact?

Don't think you can move the gear lever without the key in and the steering lock off. The key sends a signal to a relay I believe that energises the steering and key lock in the ignition lock, so I'm guessing it's not doing that. Are we sure the battery in the actual key fob is good ?

You can get it out of park by removing the gearstick surround, it just pulls off, and lifting a metal bar that runs down the right side of the stick, this locks it in park....

The battery in the key could be flat but that won't make it not start... it has nothing to do with the immobiliser...

It sounds to me like you have a poor connection on the car battery, or the battery is flat... open the bonnet and connect some jump leads or something... check if the lights come on or the hazards... if they do and the key still won't work remove fuse 18 for 30secs and then replace, this will reset the immobiliser...

Once the ignition is on the lock button in the middle by the hazards should unlock the doors...

The only other thing I can think of is, has the key been dropped or taken apart and you have lost the transponder out of it, it is only a small lump of plastic and is loose in the key....

The symptoms you are describing are pointing towards a fault with the car and not the key though... just check and recheck it has power, and check all connectors... Pete

we gave up, doors still all locked, still wont start,

after this experience I have decided to put one of my old classics back on the road

moving all the goodies over from the rusty one......
