Hi. My 2009 Vogue is pretty perfect apart from one thing.

The starter motors burn out. I have now had about 5 of them fitted. Some under warranty, some not? Last time a starter motor was fitted, I asked the garage what can be done about this recurring problem. They said nothing, without great expense investigating it. The actually said I should sell the car.

Please. Someone else must have had this problem? Does anyone else have any tips/advice please.

I'm far from an expert, but could something be increasing the effort needed to turn the engine over?

I was wondering if the wrong viscosity oil perhaps too thick, may need more 'guts' to overcome it's stickyness/inertia.

Again, probably nonsense, but something is increasing the load- trying to work backwards from there!

I hope you get it sorted- would be a real shame to have to draw stumps.

The commonest cause of starter motors to burn out is old age, but you've got that one covered! The second most common cause of starter motor burn out is the starter sticking on, or staying engaged after starting. This can be either a build up of dirt which stops the gear retracting when you let go of the key, or could be a short in the ignition, holding the starter motor in the start position when the key is released. Could also be a sticky starter relay, which would have the same effect.
Either way you should get to the bottom of the cause, cos sticking starter motors are a known source of ignition for car fires
Plus they ain't cheap to buy, although I imagine that you could negotiate a discount for bulk purchase
If your garage is reluctant to take on the work, I would suggest a good Auto Electrician would be able to sort it out  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Are they reconditioned starters? Are they definitely the correct part number for your ffrr? Previously..

extra load, does engine stop dead quick when off? try turn from crank,check aircon clutch
low voltage, low volts would draw extra amps, check both battery and charge circuit.(can cause premature brush/commutator failure
sticking.seems unlikely over so many, but ring gear may be issue if one has burred ring edge affecting all which follow (have a peek)
alignment.seems unlikely in situ hard to check check mating face is flat
ingress damage,dirt/water should be obvious on starter.
