For the most part, I'd say mileage is less relevant on a diesel than a petrol, more relevant is how it's been treated and looked after.. The engine itself will barely be run in at 70k, or even 100k, but if it's been driven hard or abusively, the turbo may have something to say.. Mines on 91k (07/56 plate), and it's still going very well.. |

It seems to make around 3 to 4k difference for the extra mileage, could it be going over "100,000" is a psychological barrier.

I bought mine 3 years ago at 70k, it has now done 108k

As my missus keeps trying to tell me. I scrutinise cars, as an enthusiast! Where as 99% of people just buy cars and drive them. I should listen to her....instead of following perfection. Maybe I would sleep better.!

I've just bought an 08 plate one with 140,000 miles on it. Normally, this would scare me silly however, it's got excellent history and appears to have been cared for. Thanks to some sensible advice off here, I went and bought it. Beautiful car and has considerably altered my view on high miles cars. It was also considerably cheaper than any below the magic 100,000 barrier. |

A TDV8 with 140,000 miles on the clock with good evidence of being looked after would not worry me in the slightest!

I have always run vehicles with high mileage as I have tended to do a lot of miles myself due to the job.

Alternators, starters, hoses, gearbox services etc don't worry me, it is turbos and egr problems that worry me, not just because of the cost, although from what I've heard that can be considerable, but also the reliability, if they go away from your local area, you are at the mercy of whoever to get the vehicle fixed at their price.

Then in my very humble opinion, a TDV8 at this age and mileage is not for you. Would a 4.4 AJV8 or 4.2 SC petrol be out of the question? When you factor in the lower purchase price against the additional fuel consumption plus eliminating the turbo concerns and the overall cost of ownership may be closer than you think? 2006 4.2 SC 2019 Renault Zoe Dynamique Nav |

I'm glad I did. I was originally looking for a petrol FF. I just could not find one with the colour scheme I wanted. I'd been looking for months and almost compromised on one. I was about to give up the search when this one popped up on ebay. Like you, I was concerned re EGR valves/turbos and I cannot get a warranty due to the mileage. But, I accepted the small risk and will do my bit to try and prevent it happening (use the car manly for motorways/regular oil changes,super power diesel etc). Ultimately, and I am in no way well off, if it goes then I fix it. Mind, I've got a ducati 998 in the garage and I've had to adopt a similar outlook for that. |

My 08MY tdv8 had 230,000km on it when I bought it with a fantastic service history and was in great condition. After 10,000 the tranny output shaft spline and transfer box input gear spline wore to the point where I lost drive. The tranny was performing great until this point. I blame Land Rover for this failure as the spline was dry and rusted as it had no lubrication applied when assembled. I had the used replacement L322 tranny and transfer box separated to apply lubrication to the output shaft spline. The output shaft spline was already lubricated. So I was just unlucky I think. Although LRPhil has come across others with the same problem.
