I'm picking up a 16ft ifor williams flatbed/dropside on saturday.

Has anyone got one and use the farmers hitch? If so which level do you have the tow ball in?

Mines currently in the middle set of holes, but i did notice my small box trailer sits a but low on it.

Just means i can move the towball up or down before i go. Save taking the torque wrench etc with me.

I've got one of the large Ifor car transporters, and I've got the tow ball in the top holes on my farmers hitch.

I'd like to see what type of farmers hitch you have - mine only had two sets of holes (Westfalia).
To get my LM146G Tri to sit level I had to drill a set of holes higher up and now it's bang on.
My advice would be to put yours up to the highest set of holes before you collect and then re-evaluate once you get home. A trailer which is a couple of inches too high at the front will tow fine but one too low is dangerous IMHO.

Again, top set of holes for HB511 and GD84

Though I agree with RiccartonRR, it still feels slightly too low.

I have this hitch, http://www.pfjones.co.uk/range-rover-2002-flange-tow-bar-1.html There are two holes further up, and two more 'just' below the middle ones.

I'm actually struggling to see the point of the lower two sets of holes, i mean even my little 8" wheel Erde box trailer seems nose down on the middle hole, i suppose it would level off a bit with weight in it.

I know it won't help the OP but may help others. I tow ifor tri & twin axle traitors both are tilt beds and you can adjust the bed to suit (by closing the tilt bed on a spacer bar and extending the lock bars a turn or ten!) that way we can have the trailer perfectly flat on a detachable tow bar...

Maybe worth considering next time anyone orders an ifor as the tilt bed is not too much of an extra...

Does that adjust the wheels too though? Although mine isn't a tilt bed, I was more concerns about the wheels being on the ground evenly. If it's nose down then the front axle could be over loaded while the rear is only just touching the ground.

Yes, that's exactly what it does... As the bed tilts, even by half an inch it lifts the wheels that end by 3 or 4 inches... Hence levelling the trailer to your car...

Wouldn't it have just been simpler for LR to put the ruddy towbar at the correct height in the first place

Need to watch the back bumper using the top hole - some hitches get very close with the factory ball.

You're right there - you need the Westfalia extended ball suitable for stabilising hitches

When you say transporters... I presume you mean car transporters? Mine is the farmer type flatbed with sides and a tilting hydronic bed for easy loading of sports cars...

Just need to find a tilt-bed version of the HB now and LR can make towbars as low as they want
